❗️🇷🇺🇺🇦 Chronicle of a special military operation
for April 21, 2023
At night, Russian Geran-2 kamikaze UAVs attacked Ukrainian army facilities in the Poltava and Vinnitsa regions.
According to some reports, the targets of the attack were large oil depots in these regions.
🔻Bryansk region:
▪️In Klintsy, a Ukrainian drone fell on a private property, partially damaging the house. There were no casualties.
🔻Soledar direction:
▪️Despite some statements, the Ukrainian group in Bakhmut was not surrounded. Fierce fighting continues in the city itself and on the section of the Bakhmut-Chasov Yar highway.
▪️In the northern part of the city, Russian forces fought their way along Chernyakhovsky and Tolbukhin streets towards the Olympic School.
▪️To the south, the fighters of the PMC "Wagner", overcoming the resistance of the enemy, were able to go to Grigory Skovoroda Street.
🔻Donetsk direction:
▪️In Marinka, on the western part of Druzhby Avenue, fierce battles are going on near the fire station and the local dental clinic.
▪️Ukrainian formations continue shelling the Donetsk agglomeration: the capital of the DPR, Makeevka, Gorlovka and surrounding settlements were hit.
🔻Zaporozhye direction:
▪️The situation in this sector of the front remains stably tense: the parties are conducting reconnaissance and exchanging blows.
🔻 Southern Front. Kherson direction:
▪️In the area of the Kindiyka settlement north of Aleshki, the enemy is conducting sabotage and reconnaissance activities, attempting to divert attention and mislead the Russian military before the start of a possible counteroffensive.
▪️Artillery duels continue along the entire line of contact: Russian troops hit enemy concentrations in Kherson, Dudchany and Zmievka.
Ukrainian formations, in turn, fired at the civilian infrastructure of Novaya Kakhovka, Gornostaevka and Kardashynka on the left bank of the Dnieper.
🔹Political and other events:
▪️After the next Ramstein meeting in Germany, the United States and its European allies announced a new package of military assistance, as well as the need for additional supplies of air defense systems and missiles for them.
▪️Due to problems with holding auctions with European operators by the energy company Ukrenergo, Ukraine has suspended the export of electricity to Slovakia and will not be able to send it to Hungary.
The company said that the problem arose due to the lack of the necessary regulatory framework, which was denied by the Ukrainian authorities.
Experts believe that Ukrenergo does not want to share revenues with European operators in accordance with EU regulations.
▪️Zelensky signed a decree on the introduction of a mandatory exam for knowledge of the constitution, history and state language to obtain Ukrainian citizenship.

Russian fighters have occupied several blocks in the area of Cherniakhivskoho and Tolbuhina Streets, coming up close to the Olympic Reserve School.
▪️To the south, the front line is gradually shifting to the west: fighting for Hryhoriya Skovorody Street is taking place.
Despite losing positions along the railway line, the AFU continues to desperately fight back.

❗️ What options did the Armed Forces of Ukraine have in Artyomovsk (Bakhmut): analysis of the military chronicle
On April 20 and 21, there were reports that the fighters of the Wagner PMC, with fire support from the Airborne Forces, approached the O-0506 highway between Artyomovsk and Chasovy Yar. After that, the position of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Artyomovsk may deteriorate significantly.
What is this track and why is it so important?
Highway O-0506 connected the western fortified area of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Chasovoy Yar directly with the city. It passes through the village of Khromovo (Artyomovskoye), through which the Armed Forces of Ukraine got directly from Chasov Yar to the western quarters of Bakhmut. Before the advancement of PMC "Wagner" inside the city blocks, it was possible to get to Bakhmut in another way - through the southwestern highway T-0504, bypassing Krasnoe (Ivanovskoye).
Route O-0506 was the last relatively safe road that could bring in supplies and reinforcements and take out the wounded.
What is happening in Artyomovsk now
As the “orchestra” moved deeper into Artyomovsk, fire control over the supply routes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine increased, as a result of which the Ukrainian troops began to lose up to 90% of the equipment and people sent to Artyomovsk not only from Chasov Yar, but also from Konstantinovka, Druzhkovka, Toretsk.
At the moment, the Armed Forces of Ukraine retain control of no more than 10% of the city: Ukrainian troops are in the Novy and Cherema microdistricts, schools No. 18 and are defending from the street. Chernyakhovsky in Khromov. The "Orchestra" is crushing the enemy from the north in the area of Metallurgists Boulevard and Rose Alley, in parallel - on units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which are trying to leave the city in small groups in one or two cars. For targets both in the immediate vicinity of Artyomovsk and in the depths of the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - Konstantinovka, Druzhkovka and Chasovoy Yar - FAB-120/250 bombs with planning and correction modules (MPK), as well as Krasnopol guided artillery shells, are actively used. This allows you to further complicate and slow down the supply of a grouping that cannot hold out without help.
What options does the APU have?
The first option is to throw reinforcements into the city and either continue the defense or cover the retreat. According to preliminary estimates, the total losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in killed, wounded, missing and captured both inside Artyomovsk and around it, including reinforcements destroyed almost every day, reach 650-730 people per day.
In order to hold the city, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are preparing to send the 93rd mechanized brigade and the reserve of the 117th territorial defense brigade to Artyomovsk, prepared for the counteroffensive. In the western quarters of the city, these troops are to reinforce units of the 92nd Specialized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, whose losses are estimated at 65%.
The second option is to retreat along asphalt roads.
Most of the roads between Artyomovsk and neighboring cities are not only shot through by the artillery of the “orchestra” and the Airborne Forces, but are also seriously damaged. Some bridges and crossings cannot be crossed by heavy vehicles. This means that on the other side, the retreating units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine must change to another vehicle. It is almost impossible to do this safely.
The third option is to retreat across the fields
It has been raining in Artyomovsk for almost the entire past week, and it will continue to rain next week. Because of this, the fields will again turn into impassable terrain. It will be difficult to quickly break through them in such conditions even with tanks, not to mention pickup trucks and other vehicles.
Any stuck equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will almost instantly fall under artillery fire and be disabled, and after that, the Ukrainian military will have to overcome the five-kilometer section between Chasovy Yar and Artyomovsk on foot.
The fourth option is a distracting flank counterattack
If the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine feels that control over Artyomovsk is completely lost, the 80,000-strong reserves from Ray-Aleksandrovka, Konstantinovka, Predtechino, Nikolaevka and Dzerzhinsk will probably be brought into battle.

Today, at around 08.30, Ukrainian formations tried to launch another strike on the Crimean peninsula from the operational-tactical missile system "Thunder-2".
The missile was shot down over the waters of the Sea of Azov near Kerch by anti-aircraft gunners of the 3rd division of the 18th ZRP of the 31st Air Defense Division of the Russian Armed Forces. There were no casualties, the fragments fell into the water.
Unlike the two previous attempts of strikes in Gvardeysky and Feodosia from the Odessa region, the APU replaced the positional area of the "Thunder-2" missile defense system — this time the launch was carried out from the vicinity of Zaporozhye, and the distance was about 290 km.
At the same time, last night, Ukrainian formations tried to hit Armyansk in the north of the peninsula from the multiple launch rocket system "Alder" at a distance of about 100 km. All the shells were shot down by air defense calculations.
