⚡️ (http://t.me/SLG_MAPS/299)🇷🇺🇺🇦💡 Russian Armed Forces Strikes on Ukraine's Energy System - 10 October 2022⚡️
On the morning of 10 October, Russian forces carried out massive missile attacks on energy facilities in the eastern, central and western regions of Ukraine.
Twelve hours after the attack, Rybar's team analysed open-source data and refined the list of sites reliably hit by fire:
▪️ Kiev: Kiev TPP-5, TPP-6, Darnitsa TPP, Vokzalna 110kV substation, Tripolskaya TPP.
▪️ Zhytomyr: Zhytomyr 330/110 kV substation.
▪️ Khmelnitsky: Khmelnitskaya 330/110 kV substation.
▪️ Ternopil: Ternopil 330/110/35 kV substation.
▪️ Lvov: Lvov TPP-1, substation Lviv-Yuzhnaya 330/220/110 kV.
▪️ Ivano-Frankivsk: Burshtynskaya TPP.
▪️ Sumy: Konotop 330 kV substation.
▪️ Poltava: Kremenchug 330/154/35/10 kV substation.
▪️ Dnipropetrovsk: Pridneprovskaya TPP.
▪️ Krivoy Rog: Krivoy Rog TPP.
▪️ Kharkov: CHPP-5, Zmiivska TPP, Zalyutino 330/110/35 kV substation.
❓ What conclusions can be drawn from the results of the strikes?
🔻 The main thermal power plants and thermal power plants, as well as substations with a voltage level of 330kV were targeted.
🔻 None of the strikes targeted 750kV facilities, let alone nuclear and hydro power plants. This clearly shows that the attack did not aim at the complete destruction of the entire power grid, but was intended to cause only limited damage.
Nevertheless, the massive missile attack by Russian forces left entire regions and cities with millions of inhabitants without electricity for half a day. It showed the vulnerability of the Ukrainian energy system to attacks by Russian forces and the inability of Ukrainian air defences to repel such attacks.
❓ Could more have been done? Certainly
The 10 October attack was relatively harmless and did not affect all critical infrastructure. Already tomorrow or the day after, the energy sector will set up emergency circuits in the substations and ramp up the generators of the nuclear power plants to maximum power. After that, the authorities in Kiev will make triumphant speeches about the full restoration of power supply.
There is only one nuance: the strikes have severely affected the reliability of Ukraine's power system. And it is very likely that it will not survive another such assault: The unified grid will collapse and turn into individual small island areas around power plants. The rest of the country will simply sink into darkness.
❗️ Let us repeat: If the goal is to overload the Ukrainian energy system in order to prolong panic among the population, lower the morale of the AFU and win the battlefield, such actions should be repeated.

⚡️ (http://t.me/SLG_MAPS/300)🇷🇺🇺🇦💡 Critically Vulnerable Points in Ukraine's Energy System - RT and @Rybar's Breakdown⚡️
The Russian Armed Forces launched (t.me/Slavyangrad/13521) massive strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure yesterday. Rybar's team has already stressed that the impact at this point will barely affect the functioning of the energy system. And a systematic impact is needed to achieve a significant effect.
🔻 The vulnerable spots of the power system are the 750 kV substations.
➖ Most of the nuclear power plants are located in the west of the country. It is the most stable element in the Ukrainian energy system.
➖ In the centre of Ukraine there are thermal power plants and the Dnieper cascade of HPPs. The operation of Ukrainian HPPs is highly dependent on the water level in reservoirs, and the failure of one or more dams can severely reduce the amount of energy generated.
➖ The eastern regions of the country are powered by thermal power plants. Because of coal shortages, thermal power plants cannot be considered a stable link in the energy system: they may simply run out of fuel.
🔻 Strikes on 750 kV open switchgears will disrupt the entire Ukrainian energy system. Large sources, especially nuclear power plants and thermal power plants, would be isolated and shut down.
As a result, even the west of the country, where the Rivne and Khmelnitsky nuclear power plants are located, will feel power shortages. There is already talk of rolling blackouts in some Ukrainian cities.
🔻 It will not be possible to restore power grids near nuclear power plants quickly. With winter looming, grid failures will have catastrophic consequences.
▪️ The Kievskaya-750 substation. It transmits electricity from Khmelnitsky and Rivne NPPs to the central and eastern regions of Ukraine.
Autotransformers: 50.493278, 29.691278;
50.493000, 29.695083;
▪️ Vinnitsa-750 substation. It distributes power from the South Ukraine NPP to the west and centre of the country.
Autotransformers: 49.164500, 28.722056;
▪️ West Ukrainian-750 substation. It distributes electricity from the Rivne, Khmelnitsky and South Ukrainian NPPs to Hungary. Autotransformers with capacity of 1000 MVA.
Autotransformers: 49.385944, 24.247639;
49.385889, 24.249222;
49.385833, 24.251750;
▪️ Dniprovskaya-750. It is used to distribute power from the South Ukraine NPP to the million-strong cities of Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye.
Autotransformers: 48.434722, 34.036333;
48.436056, 34.035972;
▪️ The Zaporozhye-750 substation receives power from the South Ukraine NPP, it is closest to the front.
Autotransformers: 47.998944, 35.508417;
48.000667, 35.508028;
▪️ substation Severo-Ukrainskaya-750. Energy bridge to Russia, to KNPP, power transmission from Rivne and Khmelnitsky NPP through Kiev substation to Kharkov.
Autotransformers: 50.690056, 33.769361;
▪️ NPP OPEN SWITCHGEAR. The WSU strike on the open switchgear of Zaporizhzhya NPP showed the effectiveness of this approach because open switchgear is critical to any power generation system.
If the open switchgear of the Rivne, Khmelnytskyi and South Ukraine NPPs were to be hit specifically, the Ukrainian power system would be severely damaged.
750 kV outdoor switchgear of the Rivne NPP: 51.321400, 25.918435
750 kV switchgear of Khmelnitsky NPP: 50.296547, 26.643720
750kV switchgear of the South Ukraine NPP: 47.819796, 31.228414
❗️At the same time, impacts on 330 kV substations should continue, which could partially compensate for the inability to use the 750 kV substation.
The more substations that are taken out of service, the greater the shortage will be. Nearby nuclear and hydro power may be generated but there will be no one to consume it, and where there will be consumers, there will be no generating plants.

Rumours of Ukrainian Evacuation from Artemovsk
According to Artemovsk local channels, emergency services and police have initiated an evacuation there. This is interpreted by a number of channels (started by @Legitimniy, with the Russian channels amplifying this further) as a preparation to "surrender Artemovsk".
Generally, in addition to the advance near Artemovsk, which is now in the spotlight, far more dramatic events are taking place to the south. The southern group of the Russian Army, apart from the blockade of Artemovsk from the south (after Odradovka, Zaitsevo, Veselya Dolina, and the Asphalt Plant, they appear to have entered Opytnoye, Ivangrad, and the Hydro Dam area), continues to advance westwards in the Maiorsk - Ozaryanovka - Kurdymovka - Zelenopolye - Klescheevka area. Ukrainian press actually spoke today about the Russian Army advancing close to Ozaryanovka, though this fact has yet to be confirmed by the Russian press.
Further advance to the west not only puts the entire Artemovsk garrison at risk of encirclement (which is still a long way off), but also begins to threaten the encirclement of Dzerzhinsk from the north. This, in turn, will seriously worsen the strategic position of the AFU in Donbass.
Accordingly, the AFU may or may not cling to Artemovsk. But any reserves, if they are sent here, will go first between Artemovsk and Gorlovka. Because there, after a long time and a lot of spent resources, our troops have gone only halfway through enemy fire.

Analysis of the Current Operational Importance of Artemovsk
Simply speaking, we needed to take Artemovsk as much as a caveman needs to keep the fire alive, but only for as long as we had Izyum. Izyum provided a blockade of Slavyansk from the north-west and west (we did not take Barvenkovo, road traffic was going there, though the railway did not work—it does now).
Now, all that said, Artemovsk is still a strategic point. Taking control of Artemovsk will give us a lot of terrain won back in our favour, blockading the Slavyansk garrison once again (the Ukrainian army in Slavyansk has been actively engaged in fighting in the Liman area because of operational freedom as a result of the loss of Izyum), this time from the east.
But now the liberation of Artemovsk does not mark the final push for Slavyansk. Now the liberation of Artemivsk will only mark new battles in the area of Chasov Yar, along the route to Slavyansk, and in the area of Soledar.
But to the south, between Artemovsk and Gorlovka, we will sooner or later blockade Dzerzhinsk (Toretsk) from the north and cut the Dzerzhinsk-Konstantinovka highway.
The consequences of this step depend on the measures taken by the Ukrainian command and the resources available to us. In the best-case scenario, the Ukrainian grouping in Avdeevka will suffer an operational crisis.
This, however, is not a matter of one day or even one week. Nonetheless, the trend is clear.

The Virtues of Digesting Strategic SMO Updates With Grains of Salt
Russian troops are reported to have rushed to take up positions at the Zherebets River line west of Kremennaya. Preliminary information suggests that Novosadovoye, Terny and Torskoye have been liberated, and fighting continues near Yampolovka and Kreminna Forest.
To understand the processes in the Svatovo-Kremennaya direction, let's recall the prehistory of the current fighting - namely the Kharkov region tragedy of September 6-10. Let's run through my notes:
On September 7, everyone writes about the prospect of the Izyum cauldron because of the cutting off of the road to Izyum from the north. However, they are wrong: "In the most catastrophic scenario Izyum grouping will not be surrounded, they have an opportunity to manoeuvre to the left bank of Oskol (that's where Sviatogorsk is located)." The regrouping is still a few days away, but it happened exactly as I said.
Also on September 7, a member of the OPSB gives information that all is not well on the left bank of Oskol. In particular, the 35th Army had taken with them the pontoon across the Seversky Donets during the regrouping and the adjoining forces didn't have theirs. Bad suspicions began to creep in.
On September 8, the situation worsens. Rybar gives information about the concentration of the AFU in the Izyum direction. "It also appears that an attack on the Krasny Liman district of the DPR is being prepared. The enemy has moved DRGs [Diversionary-Reconnaissance Groups] south of Krasny Liman and Yampol, as well as pontoon-engineering units to Raigorodok."
September 9: "A deeper breakthrough on the left bank of the Oskol, is impossible without a supporting strike from Slavyansk and Seversk to Izyum and Krasny Liman respectively." While Bezsonov will be claiming that the strike force that attempted to break into Liman from Seversk was defeated on September 7, the Khokhols will be finalising preparations to traverse the Seversky Donets river near Krasny Liman and Sviatogorsk. This will take place on the 10th.
The night of September 10: "A new problem has emerged in the form of an attempt to force the Seversky Donets in the direction of the DPR's Krasnolimansky district. As the evening haggle said, they can do this only tonight." That is exactly what will happen.
At that time, all sorts of military co-rat-spondents will be feeding you information about the reserves arriving and entering the battle.
The evening of 10 September: "The mobilised units holding Red Liman as of 16.30 this afternoon are literal heroes." This is due in part to the fact that our media had managed to surrender Krasny Liman. The media was wrong.
So, let us summarize: starting from September 7, i.e. the second day of the Ukrainian offensive, the strategic importance of Oskol for the Izyum grouping was obvious. And, consequently, the threat to the Krasny Liman district.
This was written about repeatedly until the moment when the 16th BARS battalion engaged in unequal combat with the superior enemy forces, giving time for our army to prepare the lines for defence.
The end of the first part, in the second we will see when Svatovo was first mentioned and how the fighting in the Krasnolimansk district was treated.
