Four recent events have put the war in Ukraine on a distinctly more dangerous course.
— The Russian annexation of four additional Ukrainian provinces blocks compromise solutions that were feasible earlier.
— The disabling attacks on both North Stream pipelines make it impossible in the near term to restore Russia as the principal energy supplier to Germany, even if the war in Ukraine should be miraculously ended.
— The Ukrainian attack on the bridge to Crimea gave Russia a pretext to escalate attacks on Ukrainian civilian targets.
— The Russian retaliatory attacks on civilian targets are certain to do more damage to Ukraine than Ukraine can do to Russia.
The leaders of both Russia and Ukraine have set impossible goals. In fact, not a single participant in the war in Ukraine has espoused a goal that can restore peace in the area. Russia’s recent incorporation of four Ukrainian provinces into the Russian Federation will not be accepted by Russia’s neighbors or by most European powers.
Given the passions aroused by the war and its atrocities, Ukraine, even with NATO support, cannot create a stable, functioning state within all the borders it inherited in 1991. If Ukraine tries to regain these territories by force and is encouraged and empowered by the U.S. and NATO to do so, Russia (and not just President Putin) will very likely demolish Ukraine in retaliation. Reality trumps illusion whenever the two conflict.
And if war should stop with the destruction of Ukraine — Kyiv and Lviv leveled as Grozny once was — that would assume that escalation does not involve the use of nuclear weapons. If the Russian leader feels convinced that the U.S. and “Western” goal is to take him out, what is to prevent him taking out others as he goes?

#RussianFederation Territories:
▪️ During the day, the AFU shelled #Belgorod again. Most targets were intercepted by air defenses, but there were two explosions near #Belgorod airport. At least three civilians were injured.
#Starobelsk Direction:
▪️ In the #Kupyansk area, Ukrainian forces are engaged in positional fighting on the #Kislovka - #Pershotravnevoye line.
▪️ The artillery of the Russian Forces hit mobile groups of the 92nd AFU Brigade, which were preparing to advance to the front line near #Dvurechnoye. As a result, the enemy suffered significant losses and was forced to abandon its planned reconnaissance battle.
▪️ In the #Lyman - #Svatovo sector, Ukrainian formations are moving personnel and armoured vehicles to the #Torskoye - #Terny line.
#Soledar Direction:
▪️ There are no significant changes on the front line, the Wagner PMC troops are fighting fiercely in #Soledar and the south-eastern districts of #Bakhmut (#Artemovsk). The enemy regularly counterattacks in both towns. Artillery is working on the accumulations of Ukrainian formations.
▪️ Wagner PMC units continue to fight fiercely for #Opytnoye. In the north-east, neat vicinity of #Belogorovka, the front is held by units of the LPR People´s Militia.
#Donetsk Direction:
▪️ Ukrainian formations once again shelled the civilian infrastructure of the #Donetsk agglomeration, including the #Donetsk city administration building in Voroshilovsky district. There are casualties among the civilian population.
#Zaporozhye Direction:
▪️ Russian Forces continue to conduct positional fighting near #Vremyevka? and #Neskuchnoye. AFU units made two attempts to storm the heights west of the villages, but retreated both times with heavy loss
▪️ Russian Forces personnel engaged targets in #Zaporozhye and #Orekhov, as well as enemy concentrations along the entire line of contact.
#Nikolaev - #Berislav Direction on Southern Front (MAP (http://t.me/sitrepmaps/8)):
▪️ In the #Berislav area, Ukrainian formations attempted an unsuccessful offensive against the Russian defences on the #Dudchany - #Mylovoye - #Novogrigorovka line on the morning of 15 October.
▪️ In the #Nikolaev sector, the AFU command continues regrouping troops for another offensive against the positions of the Russian Forces.
Ukrainian forces are forming two combat groups. One near #Bashtanka and the other in the #Prybugskoye and #Galitsynovo areas.
▪️ Ukrainian formations may launch a renewed offensive in the #Berislav and #Aleksandrovka areas in the near future. At the same time, the option of moving forces to the #Zaporozhye sector is not excluded.
▪️ Failures and significant losses of AFU units in this sector of the front have a negative impact on the moral and psychological state of soldiers and lead to reduction in the combat effectiveness of enemy forces.

The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation.
💥 The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continued launching attacks with high-precision long-range air- and sea-based armament at the military control and energy system facilities of Ukraine.
◽️ All the assigned targets have been neutralised.
💥 Russian artillery and army aviation have neutralised the manpower and military equipment of 14th and 92nd mechanised brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) near Sinkovka, Petropavlovsk, Peschanoye, Ivanovka and Berestovoye (Kharkov region) at Kupyansk direction.
◽️ About 160 Ukrainian personnel, 4 armoured combat vehicles, 2 artillery guns, 1 pickup and 2 motor vehicles have been eliminated.
💥 AFU battalion tactical group made an unsuccessful attempt to launch an offensive towards Stryapovka (Donetsk People's Republic) at Lisichansk direction.
◽️ Intense action of Russian troops has resulted in driving the AFU units back to their initial positions.
◽️ Over 50 Ukrainian personnel, 6 tanks, 2 armoured combat vehicles and 4 pickups have been eliminated.
💥 Russian troops have prevented an attempt made by AFU units to break the defence near Bruskinskoye (Kherson region) at Nikolayev-Krivoy Rog direction.
◽️ Over 100 Ukrainian personnel, 13 armoured combat vehicles and 8 motor vehicles have been eliminated.
💥 Operational-tactical and army aviation, missile troops and artillery have neutralised 2 command posts near Dvurechnaya (Kharkov region), Drobyshevo (Donetsk People's Republic), 39 artillery units at their firing positions, 127 manpower and military equipment concentration areas.
◽️ 6 munitions depots have been destroyed near Figolevka (Kharkov region), Verkhnekamenskoye, Soledar (Donetsk People's Republic), Novogrigorovka (Nikolayev region), Novopetrovka and Davydov Brod (Kherson region).
◽️ 1 storage of fuel for AFU military equipment has been destroyed near Nikolayev. Moreover, 1 post for AFU armament and equipment repar works has been destroyed near Bereznegovatoye (Nikolayev region).
💥 Within the counterbattery warfare, 1 Ukrainian Smerch MLRS battery has been neutralised near Kazachaya Lopan, as well as 1 U.S.-manufactured M777 howitzer battery near Metallovka (Kharkov region).
💥 Air defence facilities have destroyed 9 unmanned aerial vehicles near Yagodnoye (Kharkov region), Pilipovka (Lugansk People's Republic), Novosyolka, Valeryanovka (Donetsk People's Republic), Shirokaya Balka, Sukhanovo, Tomarino, Pyatikhatki and Ingulovka (Kherson region).
◽️ 21 projectiles launched by HIMARS and Olkha MLRS have been shot down near Vladimirovka (Donetsk People's Republic), Olgovka, Nikolayevka, Novaya Kakhovka, Vesyoloye and Otradokamenka (Kherson region).
◽️ Moreover, 2 U.S.-manufactured HARM anti-radar missiles have been intercepted near Antonovka (Kherson region).

The AFU is conducting a position defense and reinforcing troop grouping.
▪️ 250 mobilized citizens have been transferred to #Kamyshevakha to complete the 9th Separate Special Operations Regiment of the National Guard of Ukraine. 100 of them will be distributed to assault groups on the front line in the coming days.
▪️ Several dozen men are planned to be sent to Malaya Tokmachka to replenish the strength of the 2nd Battalion of the 9th OP NSU. Russian artillery struck one of the battalion´s bases and eliminated more than a dozen soldiers.
▪️ Due to the increasing intensity of the Russian Forces' strikes, an AN/TPQ-36 counter-battery radar was moved to the vicinity of #Odarovka. And to counter Russian Geran-2 UAVs, the Strela-10 surface-to-air missile defence system was deployed in #Dimitrovo.
▪️ Two M777 howitzers were moved to the 44th Separate Artillery Brigade and several 120-mm mortars to the AFU´s 102nd Territorial Defence Brigade in the Gulyaypole area.
▪️ The AFU continue to have informants in #Vasilievsky and #Kamenskoye - #Dneprovsky districts of #Zaporozhye Region transmitting data on the movement and deployment of Russian troops.
▪️ On the right bank of the #Dnipro the additional equipment of the fortified area has begun. The AFU command predicts an offensive of Russian Forces on #Zaporozhye, followed by a crossing of the #Dnipro. The fortified area is to prevent the Russian Forces from occupying the right bank of #Zaporozhye and reaching #Nikopol.

#Kupyansk Sector:
▪️ Units of the AFU´s 14th Mechanized Brigade intend to launch another assault on the lines of Russian Forces between #Kislovka and #Kotlyarovka to reach Nizhnyaya Duvanka.
▪️ After the failure of previous attempts to take Russian positions "head-on", the current offensive is planned from two sectors: from #Petropavlovka and #Berestovoye.
▪️ Ukrainian artillery is shelling the forward defense line of Russian Forces on the line #Lyman 1 - #Olshana - #Pershotravenskoye - #Kislovka - #Kotlyarovka.
▪️ Due to the attacks of the Russian Air Force, the enemy is moving air defense systems to the front line. A surface-to-air missile system is deployed near #Sinkovka and a man-portable air defense system in #Petropavlovka.
▪️ To maintain combat readiness, the AFU plan to move additional defense units from #Malinovka to the #Kupyansk area. The troops in the area are controlled from a command post on the territory of the #Kupyansk machine-building plant.
#Liman - #Svatovo Section:
▪️ The command of the Lyman Tactical Grouping continues to deploy troops for the offensive on the #Torskoye - #Terny and #Nadiya - #Makeevka lines.
▪️ An enemy mobile reconnaissance group is operating at the frontline on the # Novosadovoye - #Nevskoye line to "probe" the Russian defences. A team of AFU Signals Intelligence is also operating west of #Raygorodka.
▪️ Mechanized units of the AFU and units of foreign mercenaries, which the Ukrainian command plans to send to the #Torskoye area, arrive in #Lyman.
▪️ Russian artillery and aviation shell AFU positions along the entire line of contact.
▪️ Fifty-five members of the Ukrainian National Guard have arrived at the front line to compensate for the losses caused by the Russian forces' attacks.

#PosadPokrovskoye Section:
▪️ Artillery crews of the 59th Separate Infantry Brigade fire indiscriminately in the Ternovye Pody area.
▪️ The 3rd Battalion of the 28th Mechanized Brigade of the AFU has been moved to the #Ukrainka area. Previously, the unit´s personnel had been performing tasks in the #Andreevka frontline section.
▪️ After their arrival, the Ukrainian formations equipped a forward control post and replaced the forces of the 59th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade at the Stepovaya Dolina - Posad-Pokrovskoye line. The forward positions are equipped with ATGMs and man-portable air defence systems (MANPADS).
#Snigirovka Section:
▪️ Six units of military equipment were moved to the vicinity of #Kiselevka to reinforce the 105th Battalion of the AFU´s 63rd Mechanized Brigade.
#Andreevka Sector:
▪️ The Ukrainian command is restoring combat readiness of units. Over the past 24 hours, 36 equipment units were moved to the left bank via the established crossings across the #Ingulets River, while 30 units were moved to #Bereznegovatoye for recovery.
▪️ A missile battery of the 57th AFU Motorized Infantry Brigade fire Russian strongholds on the #Kostromka - #Bruskinskoye - #Ishchenka line.
#Berislav Area:
▪️ The AFU are evacuating the wounded and the bodies of the fallen killed during the offensive of the 60th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade. The confirmed losses amount to 70 fallen and injured, excluding the missing.
▪️ In the area of Novaya Kamenka, a "roving" mortar crew fire on positions of the Russian Forces in #Pyatikhatki. And in #Petropavlovka, a SAU guns battery of the AFU's 60th Separate Infantry Brigade artillery group had been deployed.
▪️ A platoon of a Battalion of the 60th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade has been moved from #Potemkino to Novaya Kamenka to replenish the 98th Battalion, and composite assault groups of the AFU´s 128th Mountain Assault Brigade have been formed near #Gavrilovka.

The Russian Armed Forces continued strikes on critical infrastructure across #Ukraine. During the day, targets were hit in #Lvov, #Chmelnytsky, #Rivne, #Vinnitsa, #Sumy and #Odessa regions, as well as in #Kiev. Electricity and water supplies were again temporarily disrupted due to the damage in several parts of the country.
#RussianFederation Territories:
▪️ Ukrainian militants shelled #Belgorod again. Russian air defence intercepted a target near the city's airport.

▪️ The AFU command is preparing for another attack on the Russian defense line #Kislovka - #Kotlyarovka from the direction of #Petropavlovka and #Berestovoye.
