About the situation in Soledar as of the evening of January 10,2023 :
Most of the city, including the administrative buildings in the center, is controlled by the Wagner PMC assault groups. Pushilin has already announced the liberation of the center of Soledar (though it still needs to be cleaned up there).
2. Yurchina Mountain, which dominates the terrain near the northern outskirts of the city, has also been taken. This makes it difficult for small, scattered groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to withdraw from the city.
The main roads out of Soledar are under the fire control of our troops, which allows us to speak of an operational encirclement.
4. According to various estimates, 300 to 500 Ukrainian soldiers and officers remain in the city, either covering the withdrawal of the main forces or having not had time to withdraw from the central areas, where mopping-up is now underway.
5. In the city itself, the Ukrainians still remain at the Sol station, at mine number 7, in the northwesterly part of the city and the western suburbs.
6. The enemy is now building a line of defense on the line of Blagodatnoe, Sol station, Razdolovka, and Veseloe.
7. After completing the mop-up of Soledar (a matter of the next few days), Russian troops will either begin stepping up attacks north of Artemovsk (which is also on the brink) or they will strike in the direction of Seversk.
8. Ukrainian propaganda is already in full swing about the "unimportance of Soledar," although until recently it was positioned as a fortress. It is worth noting that on the territory of Soledar there is the largest salt production facility in Europe, as well as the largest small arms depots in Ukraine in the village of Paraskoveyevka, adjacent to Soledar (as of 2014, there were over 2.1 million pieces of small arms storage).
9. In response to the loss of Soledar, Zelensky stripped Medvedchuk and a number of other former regionalists of their Ukrainian citizenship. a blow of unprecedented force. What next? After the surrender of Artemovsk, will another case be opened against Yanukovych?
10. Overall, this is the first serious victory for our forces since the retreat from the right bank. But for now, it is too early to throw hats; the city still needs to be cleaned up, and the really big victory will be the liberation of Artemovsk, which is of operational and strategic importance to the entire Donbass Front.
