Russia-Ukraine Reports - 2023-07-23
At 16.50 on July 21 in the area 5 km north-east of the settlement. Muzikovka. The use of two units of the Lancet KKB 7 dshd (g) of the Dnepr group of troops destroyed the radar of the Armed Forces of Ukraine of foreign production of the NASAMS air defense system.
Edit:The equipment destroyed in these frames turned out to be vehicles from the Spanish Skyguard Aspide (Spada) air defense system, and not NASAMS-2, as it seemed to us initially.
The SAM fire control radar was destroyed, as well as one of the machines of the complex. Thus, this is the first confirmed disabled Skyguard Aspide air defense system, which arrived in Ukraine at the end of 2022.

In a year and a half of conflict, land mines — along with unexploded bombs, artillery shells and other deadly byproducts of war — have contaminated a swath of Ukraine roughly the size of Florida or Uruguay. It has become the world’s most mined country.
“The sheer quantity of ordnance in Ukraine is just unprecedented in the last 30 years. There’s nothing like it,” said Greg Crowther, the director of programs for the Mines Advisory Group, a British charity that works to clear mines and unexploded ordnance internationally.
This week’s deployment by Ukrainian forces of U.S.-made cluster munitions, which are known to scatter duds that fail to explode, can only add to the danger.

On cluster munitions,
I’m seeing a lot of comments in chat which respond to word or footage of Ukrainian cluster munition strikes that are in the vein of, “Russia must immediately use these too!!”
Or worse, “Russia should use cluster munitions on Kiev!”
Calm your horses.
Cluster munitions are not some “game changing wonder weapon” like all the rest sent to Ukraine.
In terms of military use it has a niche role and is otherwise extremely limited. It is equivalent to flying over a target zone and dumping a bag of hand grenades out the side.
This is useful in defense against advancing infantry or unarmored vehicles out in the open and not much else.
It is utterly useless on offense against fortified lines. Ukraine utilizing these shells while on Schroedinger’s Offensive simply showcases they’re short on the ammo they need, nothing more.
Russia can, and has been using such munitions in kind when and where appropriate already, to greater effect on the defense.
The problem is that excessive use of such effectively creates uncharted minefields in your own path of advance or possible path of counter-advance.
Again, this is a munition with a very narrow purpose, not some sort of slate wiper.
That said, using such munitions against urban targets serves absolutely zero military purpose whatsoever, and any use of such on cities would only kill civilians.
So calls for “shell Kiev with this!” and the like shall be treated in chat as calling for strikes on civilians and dealt with accordingly.
Again, think with your brain and your soul, not your heart.

Another "Road of death" near Artemovsk, this time at Kleshcheevka: AFU is trying to break through the flank of Artyomovsk, leaving piles of burnt equipment and corpses
On July 22, from 4 am until the evening, the enemy tried to break through the southern flank of Artemovsk, throwing infantry with armored vehicles in waves in the direction of the village of Kleshcheevka. Ru fighters repelled attack after attack, covering the enemy with artillery from other weapons.
As a result of the battles, one of the enemy attack routes was literally littered with burnt armored vehicles and militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The enemy has been beaten here for a long time.

Little analysis
There is again a rising trend of reported AFU troops killed in the line of contact. Last several days, the average figure jumped to 600+ kia per day. I emphasized on purpose the part "on the contact lines". Airforce is very active almost all the time, providing CAS and strikes in the enemy's rear. How big losses are in the rear is impossible to find out, because MoD rarely provides info on what and where the hit landed and what is destroyed (except the ammo and hardware storages - but even that, rarely) So, according to data we have, we can stand behind the figure of 1500 kia/wia per day (conservative estimate - but maybe the most reliable we can get with data available). Hardware losses are a little easier to truck. AFU is losing on average between 3-6 tanks per day (destroyed/disabled), around 12-20 IFV, AFV, APCs, and 5 - 10 artillery pieces (self-propelled and standard).
So, in the lowest estimate, weekly losses amount to roughly 10.000 men Kia/wia, 30 tanks, 80+ armored vehicles, and 35 + artillery pieces.
I once again emphasized this is the lowest estimate, but still big and unsustainable in the longer period, despite infusions coming from the West.

🇺🇸🇺🇦The United States does not transfer ATACMS long-range missiles to Ukraine due to its small stockpile of these munitions, - Washington Post
The Pentagon believes Kiev has other, more pressing needs than ATACMS and fears that sending enough weapons to Ukraine to make a difference on the battlefield would seriously undermine US readiness for other possible conflicts.
The exact number of missiles in warehouses in the United States is classified. But, according to open data, Lockheed Martin produced only about 4,000 ATACMS.
"Many of them are used by the US Army in combat operations, exercises and periodic tests. At the same time, almost 900 units have been sold to allies and partners abroad over the past decade, including 211 since the beginning of the war in Ukraine," the authors calculated.
Thus, the US NATO allies, the Persian Gulf countries, Taiwan, Australia received ATACMS, in the near future 40 missiles will go to Morocco.

Here you can clearly see the roof of the cathedral in Odessa, through which an anti-aircraft missile (most likely S-300) entered, and the spread of the striking elements of an anti-aircraft missile inside (characteristic marks on the walls).
And this is just one of the rockets that fell yesterday in Odessa. Judging by yesterday's video, at least 2 anti-aircraft missiles fell in the city.

German mercenary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine spoke about the torture of Russian prisoners of war
Jonas Kratzenberg, who fought for several months in the ranks of Ukrainian troops, described the torture Ukrainian soldiers subjected to Russian prisoners of war, and how he witnessed the execution of three of them.
“It was the most common thing to pose for pictures with them, humiliate them, put a gun to their chest, and make them shout Nazi slogans, it was the norm.
Also beating prisoners just "because". One was beaten, put on his knees and forced to beg for his life, and then stabbed in the thigh,” said the soldier of fortune.
He also shared the story of how the Ukronazis took three prisoners and took them into the forest. Kratzenberg heard shots from there, after which the militants returned without prisoners.
This will not be shown at the UN Security Council.

Ukrainian air defense against Odessa - substandard anti-aircraft missiles are becoming an increasingly serious problem for the Armed Forces of Ukraine
During the night combined attack on the port infrastructure of the Kiev regime, eyewitnesses observed the extremely unsuccessful operation of enemy air defense. At least two anti-aircraft missiles left the trajectory and hit the city itself. And these are only those that got on the video - eyewitnesses report a larger number of faulty ammunition.
One of these missiles hit the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral. Although Russia was immediately blamed for this attack, the nature of the damage indicates that they were inflicted by an anti-aircraft missile. Ukrainian sources themselves posted photos with traces of striking elements on the net, after which they began to bashfully rub them.
In total, five air defense missiles that fell on the center of Odessa are reported. Perhaps this is an unprecedented case for the entire time of massive strikes on the territory of Ukraine - before, so many Ukrainian anti-aircraft missiles did not fail after launch.
The explanation for this is quite simple - Odessa, as we wrote earlier, covered itself according to the residual principle, because the "grain deal" protected it better than any "Patriot". Most likely, it was also replenished with anti-aircraft missiles for the S-300 complexes in a non-priority order.
In general, the shortage of missiles for Soviet air defense systems is becoming an increasingly burning problem for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Deliveries of Western complexes simply do not keep up with the needs of Kiev, and there is not enough ammunition for them - we have previously pointed out the limited US capabilities to replenish Patriot PAC-3 missiles.
More and more often, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have to use substandard missiles, risking hitting their own cities. I would not like to flatter myself ahead of time, but the forecast for Ukrainian anti-aircraft gunners is extremely unfavorable. There is simply nowhere to get new missiles for Soviet complexes, so in the foreseeable future, they will have nothing to shoot with.
In the meantime, enemy air defense is bombing Odessa worse than the RF Armed Forces are doing, whose strikes are selective and directed primarily against military targets and infrastructure.

⚡️ Regarding the night strike in Odessa and Nikolaev, you need to understand the following.
1. The Armed Forces of Ukraine have long placed and stored weapons and ammunition in ports and, most likely, were confident that these stocks were safe due to the grain deal.
2. Night detonations in Odessa allow us to conclude that everything brought to the ports, probably for the “South” grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was stored as tightly as possible. Some warehouses in the port area are still burning.
3. The volume of destroyed ammunition and equipment is still difficult to comprehend, however, if weapons and ammunition were critical for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Kiev will urgently request more soon.
4. To compensate for the supply of destroyed weapons, you will have to spend a significant amount of time. Considering that a significant part of the shells of 152 and 155 mm caliber, as well as other weapons, go to the area of the Ukrainian offensive literally from the wheels, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will have to change the scheme and method of delivery, and this is additional time, which is not there. And this is not counting the problems with the preparation of unmanned boats, which will now be even more difficult to assemble and launch.

Thanks to this video, there is no doubt that the Ukrainian air defense attacked the largest Orthodox church in Odessa tonight. For what?

A Leopard 2A6 blown up on mines.
The explosion torn off the track, ripped off the rollers + damaged the hull. Near the place of detonation there is a pack of anti-tank mines, which the enemy dug up around the tank.

️"Otvazhnye" advance near Svatovo-Kremennaya, breaking through the Ukrainian armed forces' defences by several kilometres
▪️ Assault detachments of the 21st Brigade and other units of the Centre group of troops are conducting a successful offensive near Karmazinovka, defeating the enemy and storming heights and AFU strongholds in forest belts.
▪️ "Russian troops have conducted a series of successful attacks in the area of the village of Karmazinovka over the past two days. Karmazinovka, as a result of which they managed to advance substantially (by almost 4 square kilometres) towards the border of Novojegorovka village - Ostrovskoye village", - enemy military analysts report.
▪️ "South-west of the village of Karmazinovka, the Russians have success in advancing along forest belts and wooded areas," another bulletin says.
▪️ Yesterday, enemy bulletins reported that "In the Kremennaya forestry area, the Russian Armed Forces captured a number of forest belts to the west near the villages of Kovalevka and Karmazinovka. Their goal is to move towards key heights and capture them".
▪️ As a result, our forces continue their offensive, capturing new AFU strongholds, and a considerable number of fighters have surrendered these days.
▪️ As a result of the advance, the fighters of the Centre group have managed to occupy the heights and take fire control of the village of Novoyegorovka, which may also come under our control in the near future.
▪️ According to the Ministry of Defence, over the past 24 hours the enemy attempted to counterattack our troops six times in the Novovodyanoye and Karmazinovka areas of the LNR. All attacks were repelled by active action by units, air strikes, and the fire of artillery and heavy flame-throwing systems of the Central Military District.

According to some reports, the static front in the Svatovo-Kremennaya area began to move seriously. The Airborne Forces and the Brave have made good progress and maintain momentum. The enemy is losing oporniks, the first line of defense has been broken through. In short, the Airborne Forces and the troops of the Central Military District seem to have gone through more in a few days than a crest in almost two months of a "test offensive" in the south. I am generally silent about the losses of the Khokols suffered in the offensive.
In fact, the direction of Svatovo-Kremennaya is very important, from here the shortest path to Slavyansk and in general this section of the front is extremely difficult due to forests and terrain features.
On New Year's Eve, the Khokols rushed to Kremennaya, hoping to cut the road in the area of Staraya Krasnyanka. Now the situation has changed and the enemy is making every effort so that his defense does not collapse under the blows of the Airborne Forces and the Brave.
