APU comes 60 days. What is the result: analysis of the military chronicle
The offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine began on June 4. During the attacks, the command of the Ukrainian army planned to carry out a series of large interconnected strikes in different areas, but as a result, the troops got stuck in positional battles.
How has the course of the operation changed in two months?
The offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine can be divided into three main phases.
The first - from June to July - was accompanied by offensives of relatively large units (up to several battalions in one attack).
The second - from the beginning to the middle of July - was accompanied by a change in tactics due to heavy losses and attempts to advance in small groups without major assault operations.
The third phase of the offensive began at the end of July, when Ukrainian troops again began to send large forces into battle, including reserve brigades, whose task was initially to fight after a breakthrough in the attack.
However, the reserves involved did not affect the advancement of the Ukrainian troops. At the same time, the tactics of strikes by small mobile groups did not materialize, which forced the Armed Forces of Ukraine to return to "meat assaults" on light vehicles with heavy losses.
Separately, it is worth noting that the operation was launched by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the summer, under favorable weather conditions, conducive to both observation and reconnaissance, and the use of ground forces, including mechanized formations.
At what stage is the attack now?
In all areas, including Zaporozhye, the South-Donetsk and Artyomovsky fronts, the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is stuck in a gray zone.
On the main directions of attack - Orekhovsky and Velikonovoselkovsky - Ukrainian troops did not reach the first line of defense of the RF Armed Forces and ran into fire bags - small villages, in which it is impossible to dig in and hold positions without losses.
Foreign military equipment, which was initially relied on, did not help the Armed Forces achieve any tangible results: German Leopard 2 tanks and American M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles did not perform better than Soviet vehicles, as a result of which a significant part of imported tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, after heavy losses, were either withdrawn to the reserve, or their use on the battlefield has become extremely limited.
Why did the Armed Forces of Ukraine fail to achieve results?
In addition to the heroism of the Russian military and coordinated actions to repel the attacks of Ukrainian troops, there are other reasons.
The first and most important is the lack of an experienced, battle-hardened army in the vanguard of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. A significant part of the old composition of the Ukrainian army was destroyed in the first few months of the SVO.
The new brigades of the Ukrainian army, formed mostly from mobilized ones, do not have the same combat experience and were not motivated not only for the offensive, but for combat operations in general.
Mines have also become one of the main problems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At first, the Ukrainian troops did not have a clear idea of the area of minefields, and almost immediately they encountered attacks by Lancet drones not only on tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, but also on engineering equipment when trying to clear minefields.
Also, the deficit of aviation, which Ukrainian troops cannot use due to the work of Russian air defense systems, affected the pace of the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
What is the bottom line?
In most directions, during the 60 days of the offensive, the Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to deploy troops at a distance of 5-6 km from the place where the attacks began.
At best, this is not about positions occupied with battles, but about crossing the line of attack and returning to their original positions for regrouping due to heavy losses.

Ukrainian channel Rezident:
Our source reported that the General Staff changed tactics in the Azov operation, now the Western media are writing about it.
After the first attempts at a counter-offensive in the south, the UAF changed tactics, discarding what they were taught in the West, writes the New York Times.
Ukrainian commanders have focused on wearing down Russian forces with artillery and long-range missiles. There are also small-scale infantry attacks.
But in the West they are skeptical about this.
The British intelligence company Janes said the small-unit attack strategy is "very likely to result in mass casualties, loss of equipment and minimal territorial gains" for Ukraine.
And US officials are concerned that a return to their old shelling tactics would deprive them of scarce munitions, "which could put Ukraine at a disadvantage in a war of attrition."
However, the publication states that Western offensive tactics have not had an effect in Ukraine.
"Western-trained brigades went through only four to six weeks of combined arms training, and the units made several mistakes at the beginning of the counter-offensive in early June," experts say.
This raises questions about the quality of the training Ukrainians have received in the West and whether the tens of billions of dollars worth of weapons are successful. The newspaper recalls that in the first two weeks of the counteroffensive, up to 20% of Western weapons were damaged or destroyed.
As a result, "NATO's hopes for great successes of Ukrainian formations, equipped with new weapons, ammunition and re-trained, did not come true, at least for the moment."

🇷🇺 🇺🇦 Early in the morning, a Russian patrol ship destroyed two unmanned boats of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Myskhako area in the Novorossiysk port . The drones targeted oil terminals in Novorossiysk .
The drones themselves, apparently, left the mouth of the Danube River in the afternoon of August 3. Then, under the control of the Tekever UAV , the drones moved to the east, where they were waiting for the start of the UAV raid on the Crimea , which also happened at night.
It is noteworthy that at the time of the raid and attempted strike on Novorossiysk, three reconnaissance UAVs of the US Air Force and NATO Air Force (RQ-4D Phoenix, two MQ-9A Reapers) and one R-8A aircraft were in the air in the southwest of the Black Sea .
Taking into account the recent missile attack on Taganrog in the Rostov region, an attempt to attack Novorossiysk once again confirms the enemy’s plans to strike at the Russian port infrastructure in the Black Sea.
