Victoria's ISW Secret
Iโm the sort of person who canโt stand getting โexpert analysisโ from the same people who lied to me the last time. When I see a war article on the BBC, Fox, CNN, or MSNBC, I know I need to do my own research. When I see that all of the MSM agrees on something, I know itโs either true, or itโs some next level narrative.
Highlights of Russian Military Operation in Ukraine on August 18
โช๏ธIn the southwestern part of the Black Sea, a Ukrainian uncrewed boat attempted to attack Russian patrol ships.
The enemy's craft was destroyed by onboard weapons fire.
โช๏ธThe AFU again used drones to attack rear Russian targets.
Four vehicles were intercepted as they crossed the state border.
โช๏ธOne of the drones managed to make it to Moscow, where it was suppressed by electronic warfare.
Its wreckage fell on the eighth pavilion of the Expocenter exhibition complex, slightly damaging the faรงade of the building.
โช๏ธThe AFU continue to shell populated areas of the Donetsk agglomeration with cluster munitions.
Residential houses and civilian objects were damaged. Three people died, at least five more were wounded.
โช๏ธOn the Vremivka sector, the AFU is regrouping and trying to attack in the forest belts east of Urozhaine.
Russian forces destroy advancing units with artillery and small arms fire.
โช๏ธTo the west, after a series of unsuccessful attacks on Pryyutne, the enemy has reduced combat activity.
Russian troops are strengthening their defensive positions and striking at regrouping AFU units.
โช๏ธOn the Orikhiv sector of the front, the enemy continues to try to gain a foothold on the northeastern outskirts of Rabotino.
Russian troops are repelling the attacks, preventing the transfer of heavy equipment to the village.

๐ฃ Sergei Lavrov, in an interview with the International Affairs magazine, said:
โพ๏ธ Western sponsors are constantly pushing Kyiv to raise rates, the prospects for negotiations between Russia and the West on Ukraine are not visible now;
โพ๏ธ Multilateral consultations on Ukraine in Jeddah and Copenhagen without the invitation of Russia indicate that the West does not intend to negotiate anything with Moscow;
โพ๏ธ The Russian side regards the West's hypocritical calls for negotiations as a ploy in an attempt to buy time for the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
โพ๏ธ The faith of the West in military successes and the preservation of Ukraine in any form and borders is becoming weaker due to the prolongation of the conflict;
โพ๏ธ The total assistance of Western countries to the Zelensky regime for the year of the special military operation exceeded $160 billion;
โพ๏ธ The United States does not want to end the Ukrainian conflict, so they continue to talk about a settlement according to Zelensky's "formula";
โพ๏ธ Russia is convinced that its CSTO allies will not allow the West to involve itself in its plans to escalate military-political tensions;
โพ๏ธ The possession of nuclear weapons in the context of deterrence is currently Russia's only possible response to some significant external threats to its security;
โพ๏ธ Russia is fully committed to the principle of the inadmissibility of nuclear war and proceeds from the fact that there are no winners in such a conflict;
โพ๏ธ The Russian Federation is sympathetic to the forced prudence of the allies, who are under tremendous pressure from the West;
โพ๏ธ Western countries are trying to force Russia's allies to stop all contact with it, and Moscow is taking countermeasures to prevent this negative influence;
โพ๏ธ People with a racist worldview today in Western countries are "at the helm", it is difficult for them to come to terms with the onset of multipolarity.

โผ๏ธ๐บ๐ฆ๐ดโโ ๏ธ Footage of the defeat of a column of NATO equipment and marines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Urozhayne shocked Ukrainian military propagandists and the media
โช๏ธIn Ukraine, there is more and more shock from fresh footage of the defeat of armored groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
โช๏ธโThe footage shows a convoy of the 37th Brigade, which was given the task of moving from Urozhaynoye to Kermenchik. All the way the enemy (RF Armed Forces) watched her, our artillery preparation is also not visible on the footage. It is not clear why the column went without cover in fact in one direction,โ Ukrainian military analysts quoted by the Kyiv media are perplexed.
โช๏ธLosses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine amounted to at least about two dozen people, Ukrainians write.
โช๏ธThe Armed Forces of Ukraine announced the capture of Urozhayne this week. At the same time, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Russian counterattacks in the village.

Politico:
Expectations for Ukraineโs counteroffensive were too high from the start.
And as it now closes in on its third month, with no sign of a truly significant dynamic-changing breakthrough, it feels as though weโre back in a slog, a war of attrition that risks stretching the patience of impatient allies โ something the Kremlin is no doubt hoping for.
Or, as American military strategist Edward Luttwak noted this week, โThe Ukraine war has entered its โgrin & bear itโ period as it fights a Great Power that tried & failed to conquer it in a week last February, and which is now organized for protracted war.โ
Ukrainian officials blame their counterparts in allied governments for much of the overoptimism surrounding the counteroffensive โ as well as an overenthusiastic Western media that mistakes wishful thinking for clear-eyed analysis all too often, conjuring up the idea of demoralized, badly led Russian soldiers quickly turning tail.
But Kiev also bears some responsibility for of the optimistic prognosis of a quick breakthrough.
For much of the spring ahead of the counteroffensive, Chief of Ukraineโs Main Directorate of Intelligence Kyrylo Budanov, among others, all too confidently pronounced the prospect, talking about the coming โdecisive battle.โ And Budanov even shrugged off pleas from Ukraineโs Ministry of Foreign Affairs to soften predictions of success.
Another reason behind Ukraineโs mistaken optimism was also a failure to understand that the Russian army was quickly learning from its own mistakes and correcting course. Just weeks ahead of the counteroffensiveโs launch, Jack Watling and Nick Reynolds โ two of this warโs most thoughtful military analysts from the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) โ issued a warning about likely hiccups, detailing evidence of Russiaโs learning curve, noting altered basic infantry tactics and improved artillery targeting, allowing guns to strike Ukrainian targets within minutes of detection.
They also highlighted other changes, including the โspeed with which Russian infantry dig, and the scale at which they improve their fighting positions.โ Russiaโs armor tactics were altering as well, as they began using tanks to offer supporting firepower for infantry units from safe distances, rather than amassing them for bungled shock-and-awe attacks, and utilizing thermal camouflage to mask them.

Military expert Boris Rozhin on the main points during the special military operation of the Russian Federation on the territory of the former Ukraine for a day by 09.01 Moscow time on 19.08.2023 especially for the channel Voenkor Kotenok @voenkorKotenok :
1.
Zaporozhye direction.
The enemy continued intensive attacks in the area of โโthe settlement. Rabotino , trying to cling to the northeastern and northern outskirts, and also trying to push through the line of oporniks of the RF Armed Forces to the east of the village.
We are not talking about a significant breakthrough here - the enemy is trying to push through the defense in the hope that there will be enough resources either to occupy part of Rabotino or to bypass the village from the east in order to try to establish fire control over communications leading to the village.
The remaining reserves, which were previously held for the development of success, were introduced into the business.
2.
Vremievsky performance.
The enemy confidently controls the northern part of Staromayorskoye and Urozhaynoye , continuing attempts to establish full control over them after the withdrawal of the RF Armed Forces.
Our troops continue counterattacks and prevent the enemy from accumulating forces for an attack on Staromlynovka .
The enemy is probing our line of defense near Zavitne Bazhan .
In the area of โโPriyutny and Novodonetsk, our troops are holding the line of defense.
3.
Artemovsk.
Our troops successfully hold the defense to the northwest and south of Artemovsk .
The enemy could not break through the defense line of Kleshcheevka-Andreevka-Kurdyumovka .
Kleshcheevka is under our full control.
The enemy is preparing new attacks in the area of โโโโAndreevka and Kleshcheevka .
The activity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Berkhovka was stopped.
4.
Svatovo-Kupyansk.
The RF Armed Forces continue their offensive towards Oskol , maintaining an average advance rate of 1-1.5 km per day.
The enemy daily loses here a significant number of personnel and several oporniks.
The RF Armed Forces are pressing hard on Kupyansk from the northeast, but it is still far from the start of fighting on the outskirts. It is first necessary to occupy Sinkovka in order to provide the possibility of access to the city from the northeast. So far, the settlement is mostly held by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The enemy strengthens the city's defenses, as well as strongholds in the Petropavlovka area.
So far there has been no progress in the Dvurechnaya area.

Dmitry Medvedev writes (https://t.me/medvedev_telegram/376):
The defeat of the West in the Ukrainian direction seems inevitable.
Let their leaders, who have forgotten about their own citizens, continue to shout at each other that they will support Ukraine with weapons and money for as long as necessary. They will train soldiers for the military, rebuild the economy, and maintain sanctions against Russia. However, these efforts won't help.
For them, it's a distant war with unfamiliar people dying. While they might not empathize much, the West won't go beyond their interests. No matter how loudly they protest at summits or the UN, someone else's war eventually becomes boring and costly.
For us, it's a tragedy involving our people, an existential conflict for self-preservation. We're faced with a choice: them or us.
Time will pass. Western leadership will change, elites will tire, and negotiations might be sought. Any counteroffensive will weaken. They'll mourn their dead and heal their wounds. Yet, we can't halt until the inherently hostile Ukrainian state is dismantled, destroyed utterly. It must never rise again, even from ashes. This process might take years or decades, but we're compelled: it's either dismantle their regime or risk Western aggression against Russia.
Hence, the only solution is to completely control the hostile state's machinery and secure loyalty for the future. Russia's control over the former Bandera state is necessary, and is a goal we will achieve.
