Changes in the situation in the Kupyansk direction indicate a qualitative change:
▪️Firstly, we are talking about an enemy attack on the bridge over the Oskol, which we have repeatedly written about. After that, in fact, the left-bank part of the agglomeration remains cut off from the city itself.
▪️Secondly, as in the case of the Balakley-Izyum counteroffensive last summer, which was carried out by small forces with good information and psychological support, the enemy begins to “disperse” the topic of a counterattack in the Kupyansk area. Balakleya, and like Kupyansk in August-September 2022, were taken by 4 hundred people, conditionally with “2 tanks and 3 infantry fighting vehicles”, and our units defending these cities, having swallowed the misinformation, automatically retreated to Kucherovka and dug in there.
Realizing that now the forces and means of the 6th combined-arms and 1st tank armies of the RF Armed Forces are concentrating on this sector, the TsIPsSO SSO of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are throwing disinformation through controlled channels about the alleged transfer to the Kupyansky sector of reinforcement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the preparation of offensive operations for August 24. The stuffing also contains information about the transfer of additional equipment and weapons. The enemy in correspondence and personal conversations on the gsm-ether actively exaggerates the topic "waiting for orders." Many pro-Ukrainian Telegram channels have already officially begun to talk about the topic of the upcoming “battle for Kupyansk”, which write that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will squeeze the Russian army out of the Liman First.
Well - let's refute the enemy's attempts to sow panic and confusion by throwing out frank "misinformation":
1️⃣ Now the enemy is completing the construction of the defense line in the Shevchenkove area, which has already been done for the second month. The number of military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in this area is far from the reserves required for a counteroffensive. Mobilized units from Odessa and Lvov are standing on the site, which create the appearance of the presence of the army.
2️⃣ Realizing that in Kupyansk itself there are people who are waiting for the return of the RF Armed Forces, in the classic of information and psychological operations, the enemy defiantly launches columns consisting of several pieces of equipment along the surrounding roads ( the composition and sequence of vehicles changes, but there is no transfer ). Leopard tanks, self-propelled guns Krab, M113 with a false turret were seen in the columns. They are also transported on tractors, creating the appearance of a transfer. Of course, one should not assume that there are no reserves at all in the Kupyansk direction - no. Their number is sufficient to partially deter our offensive. But not for a full-fledged counterattack.
3️⃣ Most of the “colleagues in the shop” form the opinion that the enemy purposefully surrenders Kupyansk in order, following the example of Bakhmut, to subsequently forge our large forces in this area, forcing us to defend the city from the flanks. The "Bakhmut precedent" and the tactics of flank attacks instilled confidence in the minds of the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Undermining bridge crossings across the Oskol is a signal to us that the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not plan to defend the eastern part of the city. The question is where the equipment from the forest south of the Sakhzavod will go. It is possible that in the direction of Borovaya. But a demonstration of unpreparedness for defense is evident here.

▫️In Kupyansk direction, the units of the Zapad Group of Forces improved the situation along the front line.
▫️4 attacks by units of 25th airborne, 95th airborne assault and 14th mechanised brigades of the AFU have been repelled close to Sinkovka (Kharkov) and Novosyolovskoye LPR.
▫️1 field ammunition depot of the AFU 103rd Territorial Defence Brigade has been destroyed near Stelmakhovka LPR.
▫️The enemy losses were up to 160 servicemen, 5 AFVs, 2 motor vehicles, 1 M777 artillery system, 1 Krab, 1 M109 Paladin and Akatsiya self-propelled artillery systems, as well as 2 AN/TPQ-50 counter-battery radar stations.
▫️In Zaporozhye direction, as a result of actions by units the Russian grouping of troops, 5 attacks by units of the 82nd Airborne Assault Brigade of the AFU strategic reserve have been repelled near Rabotino (Zaporozhye).
▫️1 ammunition depot of the 65th Mechanised Brigade of the AFU has been destroyed near Omelnik (Zaporozhye).
▫️The enemy losses were up to 80 servicemen, 3 IFVs, 4 motor vehicles, FH-70, D-20 and D-30 howitzers, 2 M119 guns, as well as 1 AN/TPQ-50 counter-battery radar station.
▫️In Donetsk direction, as a result of actions by the Yug Group of Forces, 3 enemy attacks have been successfully repelled close to Krasnogorovka and Nevelskoye DPR.
▫️The enemy losses were up to 225 servicemen killed and wounded, 2 IFVs, 3 AFVs, 4 motor vehicles, 1 Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, Msta-B and D-30 howitzers, as well as 1 AN/TPQ-36 counter-battery radar station.
▫️In South Donetsk direction, the Vostok Group of Forces hit AFU units near Staromayorskoye and Urozhaynoye DPR.
▫️The enemy losses were up to 110 servicemen, 2 AFVs, 2 motor vehicles, 1 AS-90 Braveheart and Nona-S self-propelled artillery systems, as well as 1 M777 artillery system.
▫️In Krasny Liman direction, units of the Tsentr Group of Forces repelled 2 enemy attacks near Chervonaya Dibrova LPR.
▫️Units of 42nd, 63rd and 67th mechanised brigades and the 95th Airborne Assault Brigade of the AFU have been hit near Yampolovka, Serebryanka and Grigorovka DPR.
▫️The enemy losses were up to 75 servicemen, 2 AFVs, 3 pickup trucks, and 1 D-30 howitzer.
▫️In Kherson direction, the enemy losses were up to 45 servicemen, 8 motor vehicles, and 2 120mm mortars.
▫️Operational-Tactical and Army aviation, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have neutralised manpower and military hardware in 167 areas.
▫️Air defence facilities have shot down 1 Su-25 aircraft of Ukrainian Air Force near Starorayskoye DPR, and have intercepted 3 projectiles of Uragan and HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems.
▫️In addition, 36 UAVs have been destroyed close to Kremennaya, Krivosheevka LPR, Krasnaya Polyana, Berestovoye, Stepnoye, Gorlovka DPR, and Vladimirovka (Kherson).

Western training of Ukrainian soldiers turned out to be inapplicable to the realities of the SMO
Many are interested in why the brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine trained in NATO countries were so embarrassed.
The obvious problem is that both Russia and the West were preparing for a completely different war. At the same time, there was simply not enough time to prepare for it - the basic training of the Ukrainian military takes only 35 days.
And even these crumbs are not optimally used. The acquired skills often do not meet the needs of the Armed Forces. For example, instructors relay their "Middle Eastern" experience of sweeping slums somewhere in Baghdad, looking for civilian guerrillas, and the emphasis is on similar tactics. The experience of Fallujah can somehow be applied with difficulty to the street fighting in Bakhmut, but, as the Ukrainian soldier said, overcoming minefields was practiced once, and the training field was only two meters wide. And, of course, not a single NATO instructor had experience surviving under the conditional "Suns".
Some problems seem generally counter-intuitive, but they are characteristic of Western military affairs. For example, NATO places a lot of emphasis on safety, but reducing the risk to cadets comes at the cost of easier training and reduced boot camp capacity.
As a result, many soldiers need to be retrained and coordinated on the territory of Ukraine, because from the Western training grounds “zahisniki” come who have only basic knowledge, but who have no idea what to do in battle.
But what does all this mean for us? The western training grounds are inaccessible to the Iskanders, but all these brigades are forced to finish their studies in Ukraine anyway. Even if strikes on training grounds on the territory of Ukraine are also fraught with considerable difficulties, the only alternative is to wait until the enemy mobilizes three million Tarasov.
Now it all comes down to the pace of training and the ability of training camps to process recruits into ready-to-use "cannon mince". This is the bottleneck of the Ukrainian military machine.

The situation at the front as of 21 August
Zaporozhye section
Rabotino. There was a lull on 18 August: The AFU was regrouping and pulling up reserves to the northern outskirts. On the night of the 20th-21st, the fighting resumed. The Ukrainian troops are trying to reach the northern boundary of the village, but the attempts to gain a foothold so far have led nowhere. After unsuccessful attacks, most of the AFU units roll back to the starting point and accumulate in the wooded areas, where they are covered by artillery. The bulk of Ukrainian troops are concentrated in the Rabotino-Verbovoye section. A lot of foreign mercenaries, presumably as part of the 82nd AFU ODShBr: Swedes, Danes, and Norwegians. The village is under fire control of the Russian Armed Forces.

Similar situation. Over the weekend the AFU regrouped and again tried to carry out several sorties without equipment, but under cover of artillery. The units were spotted from the air and worked by artillery, after which they withdrew to the initial positions. The Ukrainian forces are still prevented from moving in the area by dense mines and a combination of artillery + Russian Federation aviation.
Pologi - Gulyaypol
The main attempts of the AFU to advance in this area are concentrated along the railway line and the T-04-01 road. At the junction of the Zaporozhye region and the DPR near Olgovskoye and Poltavka, enemy DRGs have been accumulating for several days. On Sunday evening, a temporary deployment point in the forest belts was discovered and destroyed, after which a temporary lull was observed. The Ukrainian armed forces' artillery is working much less than usual in this area.
South Donetsk direction
Urozhaynoye and Staromayorskoye are in the grey zone. The Ukrainian armed forces cannot go there without losses, so they are looking for bypasses through fields and mines. The losses are constantly increasing. So far there has been a relative lull both in the work of equipment and in attacks in general, which is attributed to the regrouping of the AFU for subsequent attacks. The 37th Brigade of the AFU Marines is suffering particularly heavy losses: this unit does not conduct frontal attacks, and when attempting to move eastwards, the brigade's columns have been ambushed and hit by artillery on several occasions.
Russian artillery is actively working in the area between Novodonetskoye and Prechistovka. As long as the weather permits, the Ukrainian armed forces are concentrating all their forces in forest belts, which makes it impossible to quickly evacuate troops and ammunition in the event of shelling.
Artyomovsk direction
The front line continues to be leveled on the flanks in the south and north. The five-week assault on Kleshcheyevka did not bring the AFU the expected result. Over the past few days, the AFU has lost 15 IFVs in the three-kilometer stretch between Kleshcheyevka and Andreevka. In the north, near Vasyukivka, the AFU is gradually reducing the intensity of its attacks. Heavy losses are taking their toll. Also, after a series of failures by the Ukrainian armed forces and several counterattacks by the Russian Armed Forces, the surviving units of the Ukrainian army are being moved from the northern direction to Kupyansk.
Kupyansk direction
Sinkovka is currently in the grey zone. Presumably, the AFU has already left the village, and the former defensive lines of the Ukrainian army in this area are now being surveyed from the air. Reactive artillery and aviation are constantly working on AFU facilities and positions of the 14th and 92nd UMBR. Adjustable FAB-250 aerial bombs with planning and correction modules are being widely used. It is reported that these munitions were used to disable the central bridge over the Oskol River. It was used to link the left and right banks of Kupyansk. The 202nd Independent Territorial Defence Battalion and units of the 88th AFU OMBr are in a difficult situation in the area of Kislovka and Kotlyarovka.
