A CNN report states that Musk turned off Starlink coverage over Crimea to thwart a Ukrainian attack on Sevastopol. The reality is that Musk never intended military use of Starlink, and it was never active over Crimea.

What really happened is that Musk denied a request to activate it over Crimea for the purpose of an attack. Musk’s stated reason for denying the request is that it would likely lead to Ukraine destroying the Russian Black Sea fleet, and result in a nuclear exchange.

No nation watches its capital ships sink and does nothing.

Another very good reason for Musk to deny this military use is that Starlink would become an undeniably legitimate target. With over 5000 satellites in low earth orbit, it would be a trivial matter for Russian missiles to destroy a few. The destruction of a handful of these satellites would result in a debris field that would take out even more of them. LEO and Starlink’s operating bands would be destroyed for decades by the cascade of collisions.

All for a war with no coherent battle plan. Ukraine’s entire battle plan is to force the west into open warfare with Russia.

Highlights of Russian Military Operation in Ukraine on September 7

▪️The AFU have once again used drones to attack Russia's rear areas.

In the Moscow region, a drone was intercepted over Ramenskoye: at the site where the debris fell, a blast wave blew out the windows of a residential building.

▪️For the first time, the territory of the Volgograd region came under attack.

Air defence systems shot down an enemy drone in the immediate vicinity of a military unit in the Gorodishchensky district.

▪️Two more drones were intercepted by Russian anti-aircraft gunners in the vicinity of Rostov.

The wreckage of one of them fell in close proximity to the headquarters of the South Military District, damaging several buildings and injuring one person.

▪️Civilian objects in Bryansk were also subjected to a massive attack.

Two aircraft were shot down by air defence systems on the approach to the city, and two more fell near the railroad station.

▪️The AFU launched several unsuccessful attacks north of Novomaiors'ke and Novodonets'ke.

Russian troops repelled all attacks, forcing the enemy to retreat to their original positions.

▪️In the Orikhiv sector, the AFU continue to storm Russian defensive lines near Robotyne.

At the moment, the village itself is in a gray zone: due to extensive damage, it is not possible to hold positions there.

▪️In the Kherson direction, the AFU reconnaissance groups landed a landing force on the north of Pereiaslav Island.

Thanks to the work of the reconnaissance, the enemy's advance was known beforehand, so the attempted landing was foiled.

- Blinken’s plan to take Tokmok before November is a truncated plan for the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ spring campaign. Realizing that they had no opportunity to reach the Sea of ​​Azov or the Crimean Isthmus, they reduced their wishes by 90%. - Another way to Tokmak is to go along the Dnepr, but the terrain there is inconvenient, there are many hills cut by steep gullies: it will be even more difficult to pass through them. And in the Verbovoye area there is a wide area with a convenient road for modern heavy tanks, so that you can quickly pass Tokmak. It was not by chance that they chose this direction, but it was not by chance that we strengthened it.

Russian Defence Ministry report on the progress of the special military operation (8 September 2023) Part I

▫️ In South Donetsk direction, the Yug Group of Forces units, artillery and aviation repelled 12 attacks of AFU 3rd assault, 77th aeromobile, 110th mechanised, as well as 241st territorial defence brigades' assault groups near Andreevka, Artyomovsk, Orekhovo-Vasilevka, and Vesyoloye (Donetsk People's Republic).

▫️ The enemy losses were more than 215 servicemen, four mobile vehicles, two U.S.-manufactured M777 artillery systems, one D-20 howitzer, one Rapira anti-tank gun, as well as one Bukovel-AD anti-UAV electronic warfare station.

▫️ One ammunition depot of the AFU 10th Mechanised Brigade has been destroyed near Avdeevka (Donetsk People's Republic).

▫️ In Zaporozhye direction, units of the Russian Group of Forces repelled five attacks of the AFU 82nd Air Assault Brigade's assault groups near Verbovoye Zaporozhye region).

▫️ Over the past 24 hours, up to 40 servicemen, one tank, two infantry fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles, two U.S.-manufactured M777 artillery systems, one UK-manufactured FH-70 gun, one Msta-B howitzer, one D-20 howitzer and one D-30 howitzer, one Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system, one Grad MLRS, as well as one Bukovel-AD anti-UAV electronic warfare station have been eliminated.

▫️ In Krasny Liman direction, units of the Tsentr Group of Forces, Army Aviation and artillery, repelled two attacks by assault groups of the 63nd Mechanised Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine close to Chervonaya Dibrova (Lugansk People's Republic).

▫️ AFU 12th special forces, and 21st mechanised brigades have been hit close to Serebryanka and Yampolovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

▫️In Kherson direction, the enemy losses were over 25 servicemen, three motor vehicles, and one Msta-B howitzer.

▫️Operational-Tactical and Army aviation, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have neutralised manpower and military hardware in 113 areas.

▫️In addition, one ST-68U air target detecting and tracking radar was destroyed near Trudovoye (Zaporozhye region).

▫️Two command and observation posts of AFU 63rd mechanised and 100th territorial defence brigades have been hit near Serebryanka (Donetsk People's Republic).

▫️Air defence facilities have shot down four projectiles launched by HIMARS MLRS.

However, there is an important difference: Israel is militarily far superior to its Arab neighbors.

At the same time, according to economists and military experts, Ukraine as a state has completely lost its technical base. Its economy is destroyed, because everything rests on Western loans and subsidies. The Ukrainian army is already staffed more by volunteers than by the authorities in Kyiv.

Report from the war in Ukraine on the morning of September 8, 2023.

At night, the Russian Armed Forces attacked enemy targets in the Zaporozhye and Odessa regions, in the cities of Kherson and Sumy.

On the Zaporozhye front, battles for the village continue. Rabotino. They report successful counter-offensive actions of the Russian Armed Forces in the south of the settlement, in which the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying to gain a foothold under heavy fire from Russian artillery, MLRS and FAB strikes. The enemy never made it into Verbovoye.

At the junction of the Zaporozhye and Yuzhnodonetsk fronts, the enemy is trying to break through the defenses of Novodonetsk and Novomayorsky. The Ukrainian Armed Forces tried to cross the Shaitanka River, but were driven back by fire; enemy losses amounted to up to 180 personnel, 2 armored fighting vehicles, 5 vehicles, a Krab self-propelled gun, 2 D-30 howitzers and a Giatsint-B gun.

In the Kherson direction, fighting continues on the islands. On one of them, opposite Novaya Kakhovka, an enemy landing was stopped by our artillery fire.

North of Marinka, the Russian Armed Forces occupied a fortified area east of Krasnogorovka, for which there were battles back in 2014. In Marinka itself, the zone of control of our troops has been expanded.

In the Kupyansk direction there are reports of battles near Sinkovka. The Russian Armed Forces are striking enemy rear areas in the Kupyansk area.

In the Bryansk region, enemy UAVs were shot down within 24 hours; one of them managed to set fire to an industrial facility. Sluchevsk and Demyanki were fired from artillery. The enemy is shelling the border villages of the Belgorod region with cannon artillery. In the Kursk region, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched artillery strikes on Uspenovka and Gordeevka. In the DPR, three civilians were wounded by enemy fire.

How will the war develop further? The question is whether we will believe that Ukraine will ever again have a more powerful assault potential than the one with which it began the summer. The answer is obvious - no.

Cobbling together these understaffed teams is like pulling their teeth out in advance. The hope that after the defeat in the battle for Zaporozhye, NATO will miraculously assemble an even more powerful contingent for Ukraine seems far-fetched. Moreover, American officials were quite clear that this was the best mechanized contingent that Ukraine could get.

It is foolish to argue with the assertion that this was Ukraine's best chance for a real operational victory, which is now slowly turning into modest but extremely costly tactical successes. As a result, Ukraine will not be able to avoid a war of attrition. And this is precisely the war that she cannot win. Due to all the disproportions that we talked about earlier.

Also, Ukraine will not be able to win a protracted positional war due to its own maximalist definition of the concept of “victory.” Kyiv insists it will not surrender until it returns to its 1991 borders. And the failure to dislodge Russian forces poses a particularly vexing problem. You will either have to admit defeat and Russian control of the annexed territories, or continue to fight stubbornly until Ukraine turns into a failed state.
