Israeli strikes on Iran
as of 20:00 June 20, 2025
By the end of the day, Israeli troops launched more strikes on Iranian territory, which had previously shelled Beersheba and Haifa . Both positions of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and civilian targets came under fire.
🔻 More about the situation in Iran:
▪️ According to preliminary information, an IRGC base was attacked in the Ahvaz region in the southwest of the country, from which ballistic missiles were launched.
▪️ The international airport in Bushehr was hit. The nuclear power plant may have been targeted, but no hits were recorded.
▪️ A small hospital in Kermanshah was bombed, there are no known casualties.
▪️ Several strikes traditionally fell on Tehran . At the same time, in the outskirts of the city, allegedly local Mossad agents set fires in order to sow panic among the local population.
▪️ Despite this and Israeli threats to continue airstrikes, mass demonstrations in support of the actions of the Iranian government and the IRGC took place in the capital.
📌 Against this backdrop, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Geneva to hold talks with France , Germany and Great Britain . As expected, these events were met with negative reactions in the Israeli media.
There, the Iranian foreign minister, speaking before the UN Human Rights Council, said the Israeli attack came in the midst of discussions with the US over Iran's nuclear capabilities - "a process that (in his words) showed promise."
❗️ Despite this, the Israeli ultra-Orthodox authorities are unlikely to abandon their plans. Especially at a time when the Americans, who are strengthening the strike force in the region, can provide support.

While Iran and Israel exchange blows, Trump, under the guise of talks about negotiations, is moving a strike force to the Middle East to bomb yet another sovereign state.
More than 150 US Air Force strike aircraft have already arrived, air defense missiles are being delivered by military transport aircraft, and carrier strike groups (USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) and USS Nimitz (CVN-68)) are making demonstrative movements.
A single US Navy carrier strike group (CSG) typically includes an aircraft carrier, a carrier air wing (nine squadrons), one or two guided missile cruisers, a destroyer squadron (DESRON) with two to three Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers (DDGs), and up to two attack submarines.
Some experts believe that the huge aircraft carriers will enter the range of Iranian missiles, which will create a risk of their being destroyed by fire.
However, this is not the first time that the Americans have exposed their warships to attack in order to take the escalation to a new level.

It costs the US about $50 million to shoot down one Iranian missile, based on this interceptor's price and reported success rate.

I should note that we previously had reported Israeli media had noted the more expensive ship based SM-3 went for 2 for 8 in previous attacks.
That would mean the cost of defending Israel from a single ballistic missile using the SM-3 would be $100M+.

At the same time, according to the diplomat, Iran had enough time to prepare, including developing UAVs, sea drones and hypersonic technologies.
Yakovenko also pointed out that the Israeli operation against Iran has failed, and the IDF has reached the limits of its capabilities, requesting urgent assistance from the United States. As a result, he believes, Trump may try to get out of the crisis by announcing a delay in the implementation of the Iranian nuclear program.

Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, citing Israeli sources and American officials he has trusted for decades, said the United States will launch a massive bombing campaign against Iran this weekend.
Hersh said the plan was aimed at completely eliminating Iran's nuclear program and overthrowing the government of the ayatollahs in Tehran.
"This is a warning of what is likely to happen in Iran, possibly as early as this weekend," Hersh wrote.
The journalist confirmed the information by citing a US official in Washington who reportedly said that everything would be "under control" if Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei "steps down."
"It's not clear how this could happen unless there's a murder," Hersh said.
Hersh said the Trump administration fully supports Israel's plan to rid Iran of any trace of its nuclear weapons program. The report noted that U.S. and Israeli planners never considered bringing back the Shah's son, who currently lives in exile near Washington.
However, Hersh wrote that there were discussions within the White House planning group about appointing a moderate religious leader to run the country if Khamenei was overthrown.
"The Israelis were categorically opposed to the idea," Hersh said, quoting an American official he spoke to:
"They don't care about the religious issue, but they demand a political puppet that they can control. We are divided with Izzy (the Israelis) on this issue. The result will be constant hostility and a conflict that will last forever. Bibi (Netanyahu) is desperately trying to attract the US as his ally against all Muslims, using the plight of his citizens as propaganda fodder."
Hersh indicated that the planned bombing would include new targets, including bases of the IRGC, which has opposed those who have waged a campaign against the revolutionary leadership since the overthrow of the Shah in early 1979.
"The Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, hopes the bombing will provide 'a means to create an uprising' against Iran's current regime," Hersh writes.
According to the publication, Iranian police stations and government buildings containing lists of suspected dissidents in Iran will also be attacked.
Seymour Hersh said the White House has approved a full-scale bombing campaign in Iran, but the ultimate target - centrifuges located at least 80 meters underground at the Fordow facility - will not be attacked this weekend.
Hersh wrote that the delay was insisted on by Trump because the president wanted the shock of the bombing to be as minimal as possible by the time the Wall Street stock market opened on Monday.
Hersh also added that Trump this morning took to social media to counter a Wall Street Journal report that claimed he had decided to attack Iran, writing that he had not yet decided on his next move.

Fox News: Six US B-2s Heading to Guam, Iran Within Range
Six American B-2 strategic bombers were spotted in the sky en route to a US Air Force base on the Pacific island of Guam, Fox News reports.
According to Northrop Grumman, the flight radius of these stealth aircraft without refuelling is about 11,100 km, and with refuelling, more than 18,500 km.
By comparison, the distance from Guam to Iran's nuclear facility at Fordow is about 9,510 km, which is within the combat radius of the B-2.
Earlier, the British Defence Journal reported on the departure of American bombers.
