Zaluzhny wanted to organize a “counter-offensive” back in 2022 - the United States was against it
The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valery Zaluzhny, planned to carry out a counter-offensive in 2022, reports Business Insider (https://www.businessinsider.com/ukraine-wanted-a-bold-counteroffensive-but-us-disagreed-book-2024-1). The operation that did not happen then pursued the same goal as the failed “counter-offensive” of 2023 - to cut the land corridor to Crimea.
However, in 2022, the United States did not support Zaluzhny, since “failure was likely, and its consequences could be catastrophic .” The Pentagon feared that Kiev would “take on too much” and as a result, the Armed Forces of Ukraine “would be destroyed.”
