A Hydra of Betrayals: Syria's Collapse and the Imperial Playbook

The swift collapse of Assad’s regime raises troubling questions. In 2015, under far grimmer odds, Syria’s Republican Guard et Tiger Forces held the line against larger US-Turkish-Israeli proxies. Latakia’s coast and critical supply routes were defended heroically, and Damascus, despite being struck almost daily, stood resolutely. Today, that same Damascus has fallen without a fight. What changed? Was this collapse engineered by a series of covert deals and betrayals among those Assad once trusted to safeguard Syria’s sovereignty?

There were whispers about Assad’s early years, when he was allegedly courted by the CIA before his rise to power. Was there truth to these rumors, and if so, did those early interactions lay a foundation for his ouster? What we can assess are outcomes, and they are damning: Syria has been dissected, the Resistance fragmented, and imperial forces are consolidating gains. The urgency for unity among the Resistance has never been more critical.

Israel’s role is insidious. October 7th, was a spark deliberately allowed to ignite. The most fortified settler state, with unparalleled intel capabilities, let events unfold, paving the way for a broader imperial agenda. Hamas (Muslim Brotherhood) handed Israel the pretext to redraw the map, bombing Syria with impunity and sights set far beyond Golan under the guise of “security.” This is calculated savagery, executed with the full backing of its vassals.

Erdogan’s duplicity is glaring. Publicly posturing as a defender of Palestinians, he has long been a covert enabler of Israel’s ambitions. His “respect for Syria’s territorial integrity” rhetoric rang hollow, especially as Turkish-backed jihadists carved up northern Syria. Erdogan’s 2016 coup scare, survived thanks to Russia, only cemented his role as a pragmatic snake, eager to play all sides to entrench neo-Ottoman dellusions. Was too much trust placed in him at Astana, freezing the war when victory was inevitable?

Astana had secured a temporary peace, but it came at a grave cost: halting offensives in Idlib, withholding advanced air defense authorizations, and leaving Syria vulnerable to relentless Israeli bombardments. The S-300s and S-400s, touted as game-changers, were reduced to mere deterrents, shackled by Russian red tape. The result? Syria’s infrastructure crumbled under Israeli strikes, and economic strangulation through Caesar sanctions did the rest. Was this a strategic miscalculation, or a deliberate trade-off in a broader game?

Then there’s Assad himself. A man once resolute, willing to endure daily compound strikes, suddenly appears in Russia with asylum granted. Could the man who defied the odds in 2015 have finally been compromised? And if so, what was offered in exchange for Syria’s dismemberment, a reduction in aid to Ukraine’s fascist puppets, or some faux-semblance of peace for Iran in its endless sanctions war? By their actions, Syrian forces gave up without much of any fight, why?

The fragmentation of the Resistance is the fatal flaw so masterfully exploited. Pepe Escobar’s warning echoes louder than ever: The Resistance must kill the hydra, or it will be picked off one by one. Syria, Lebanon, Iran, and even mighty Russia and China must heed this call. Israel’s imperial backers, led by the US, dream of China as the final domino. The stakes couldn’t be higher. When will the Dragon wake up and smell the stench?

Economic sanctions and military constraints have turned Syria into an imperial playground for divide-and-conquer strategies. The Resistance must ask hard questions: Why did Syria halt when victory seemed within reach? The stench of betrayal lingers, and real answers are needed, not gaslighting platitudes.

History will not forgive complacency. The Resistance must unite with urgency, or the hydra will tighten its grip. Syria may have fallen, but the war is not over. Will the Resistance rise as one, or will it allow itself to be dismantled piece by piece?

🌍🇷🇺🇸🇾 On the logistical difficulties for the Russian Armed Forces in case of losing bases in Syria

The fall of the Assad government in Syria obviously puts (https://t.me/rybar/66134) the Russian naval base in Tartus and the Hmeimim air base in Latakia at risk. Both facilities played an important role in the logistics of Russian operations in Libya and the Sahel. The sluggishness of Russian agencies in actively supporting the official Sudanese government also plays a role - because of this, the chances of getting our PMTO base are decreasing every day.

The offensive on the mine was carried out in parallel with the operation to eliminate the "pocket" in the area of the Dzerzhinsky Dairy Plant - the main AFU defense hub that had long hindered the advance of Russian forces in the city.

By December 8, the "pocket" was cleared, and most of the Dzerzhinsky Mine, including the coal storage, was taken under control.

▪️In the southern part of the city, the Russian Armed Forces completely pushed the AFU out of the western part of the Zabalka neighborhood. The enemy was unable to hold the previously recaptured positions and was pushed back to the slag heaps. These are currently the main defense hub - through the roads passing through them, Ukrainian formations are transferring reserves to the mine and the private sector.

These routes are targeted by Russian forces, and they regularly "catch" AFU groups on them. Between slag heap No. 7 and No. 1, a kind of "graveyard" of enemy armored vehicles burned down by UAV operators and ATGM crews has formed.

On the Pokrovsk direction, footage from objective control has appeared, confirming the presence of Russian troops in Novotroitske. At the same time, it remains unclear from which side exactly the fighters entered the territory of the livestock complex on the southern outskirts of the village.

The movement could have taken place through the Sazonivka Gully (which would mark a major breakthrough if confirmed), but this route is much longer and stretches through open terrain. The most logical option seems to be an approach from the recently liberated Novopustynka to the eastern outskirts of Novotroitske, from where they have already managed to break through to the farms.

Whether any Ukrainian formations remain in the latter is still unknown. However, given the approach of the front line to Pokrovsk from the south, they could have been redeployed to the north of Shevchenko, the fall of which opens the way for Russian troops to advance directly to the southern suburbs of the Pokrovsk agglomeration.

Arab media have published the alleged composition of the Syrian government that is to be formed by the opposition within 18 months. Until then, transitional authorities will be in power: a new constitution is also to be written in the process.

A place in the cabinet has been given to everyone: from the leader of the terrorist organization Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) Abu Muhammad al-Julani, to members of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces (NCSROF) and independent activists and politicians, such as Ahmad Moaz al-Khatib.

The new cabinet is allegedly composed of the following individuals:

▪️Abu Muhammad al-Julani - the leader of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, which led the "march" on Damascus. He was once the leader of Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of the terrorist organizations ISIS and al-Qaeda. ▪️Hadi al-Bahra - the head of the NCSROF, which is supported first by Western countries and then by Turkey. It, in turn, heads the pro-Turkish "Interim Government of Syria" (IGS), located in the territories controlled by the "Syrian National Army" (SNA) in the north of Aleppo province.

▪️Faisal al-Qasim - originally from the As-Suwayda province in southern Syria, a Druze by nationality. A TV host with a separate show on Al Jazeera. Apparently, his belonging to a religious minority and a kind of "specialization" opened the way for him to the Ministry of Information of Syria.

It is noteworthy that the majority of the possible ministers are members of the NCSROF, not very popular (https://t.me/rybar/42700) in the opposition Syrian environment. This is not surprising - they spend most of their time and sit outside of Syria, in particular on the territory of Turkey and Qatar.

It cannot be said that the "Government of Salvation of Syria" (GSS) formed by the terrorists of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham in Idlib is popular. However, unlike their colleagues, they were able to form quite strong state institutions and even subordinate the formations of the former FSA.

🔻However, such a layout may well suit the West: the members of the NCSROF are people who have "not stained their hands with blood", these are kind of "secular democrats", representatives of the "moderate part of the Syrian opposition". Hence, HTS received only one seat in the cabinet, where Ahmad al-Shara'a took the post of Defense Minister.

▫️In Kharkov direction, the units of the Sever Group of Forces have defeated units of two territorial defence brigades near Velikiye Prokhody and Volchansk (Kharkov region).

▫️The units of the Zapad Group of Forces have improved the tactical situation and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of one mechanised brigade, one airmobile brigade, three territorial defence brigades, and one National Guard brigade close to Dvurechnaya, Zagryzovo, Zeleny Gai, Kupyansk (Kharkov region), Torskoye (Donetsk People's Republic), Nadiya (Lugansk People's Republic), and Serebryansky forestry.
