Trump's Davos comments have me more convinced that he's kicking the EU to the curb.

I feel like he wants Greenland because he doesn't want the EU having a foothold in that hemisphere once he boots them. Once he dumps the EU, they may end up be at the mercy of Russia (energy) and China (goods). That is the Russian and Chinese threat that he eludes to when speaking of Greenland!

Anyone else seeing it?

"if Trump seizes it by force or strong-arms Denmark into relinquishing it. Most notably, a divorce between America and Europe looks more and more likely, as European capitals start viewing Washington, its historic ally, as an expansionist enemy."

He doesn't really care about upsetting the EU because he's divorcing them. He see's them as an expensive obligation with no ROI, especially if we're done screwing with Russia.

I've revised our page layouts. They should have a more consistent look. They all now have a heading with the source name and time.

If you access us by web browser, the heading serves as an anchor for sharing that specific portion of the page. Hover over the heading and you'll see a link icon appear. Click that link icon and it copies the exact item link to your clipboard. Then you can paste it to your comment.

My latest theory. Why Greenland?

My longstanding theory on Trump version 2 is that he has come up with a novel way of reaching goals.

Trump version 1 tackled things head on. He wanted Europe to pay its own defense. He wanted a wall. He wanted better trading terms with other countries. He wanted better relations with Russia. He wanted illegals out...

Every step of the way he was thwarted. Either by the Deep State, the Congress, the Courts, the media ,or other countries including the EU.

Trump version 2 tackles the same issues by manipulation. Knowing that he can't get the Deep State, Congress or the media to back him on working with Russia and getting the EU to pay its own defense, he's going to do it differently.

For Russia relations improvement, he's halted aid to Ukraine while simulating futile peace talks. Sooner or later, Russia will mop up Ukraine. Congress can't do much to stop him. The Deep State is trying but failing.

For EU paying its own way, or the US leaving NATO, he can't get congressional or Deep State support. Instead, he's letting the EU knock themselves out over Ukraine alone, while simultaneously infuriating them with demanding Greenland, imposing tariffs and poking them in the eye at every turn. The end goal is a split in NATO where the EU divorces itself from America. Congress isn't required to approve that! Once done, the EU will be paying their own defense.

Your thoughts?

tonyE's avatar

You make a good point. The US doesn't have to leave treaties, the effect is the same if

the other counterparty is forced to leave.

In addition the goal is to get rid of the globalists in Canada. Just watch the pressure on the Central and Western Canadian provinces to join the USA... and the Canadian military might just not do anything about it. Toronto and Quebec might just become tourist meccas with otherwise no other power, political or economic.

The US Deep State, Neocons and the Democratic Party will become irrelevant or helpless when the money from the UK dries out.

The EU and NATO will disappear because the member states simply do not want to pay for it. The Common Market might well come back because free trade was useful, but the European nations are different enough that they can not exist under a common political machine.

Specially a machine controlled by the UK.

I also think China will be brought into the US/Russo/Chinese fold by bribing them with a meaty, very long term supply contract with Venezuelan oil,

The ME, I don't know. I think the UK is very involved in their 80 year old Palestine/Israel project. Zionism is after all a British invention.

What's everyone's take on this war?

I'm beginning to think it is simply intended as a decapitation strike. I'm also starting to suspect that they did in fact hit Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The initial strike was on Tehran. There didn't appear to be much in the way of prerequisite strikes to open the corridor to Tehran. You don't send fighter jets downtown until you've cleared a path first. That would point to purely Tomahawks, drones, and maybe stealth (not as likely). If Israel owned the skies, we'd see non stop bombing by fighter jets ongoing and furious.

A decapitation strike fits with Trump's way of doing things. I could never get my head around him simply opening an air campaign and risking caskets coming home. The fact that he laid zero congressional groundwork likely means he planned very little offensive action.

My guess is that Ali Khamenei was baited into a meeting to discuss the peace talks. Israel had good intel on his whereabouts. The peace talks were the mechanism for getting him to meet where he did. All the talk about progress and Iran being ready to concede were likely a western smokescreen to make this meeting urgent.

Iran's reaction may drive deeper involvement, which may then drive congressional support.

Any other theories?

Judging Freedom is becoming useless as a soucre. He is myopic about about Trump hate rather than US policy.

https://askeptic.substack.com/i/187024988/judge-napolitano-judging-freedom-feb-5-2026-85804-pm-gmt

At 1:20 he starts talking about Trump saying he's not constrained by International Law. When has the US ever been constrained by that. Was it constrained when we bombed Libya, Syria, Youslavia, Iraq, Grenada, Panama..... No. When we wish to violate it, we just do. Sometimes we dress it up (Rules Based Order, Coalition of the willing..) At 1:52 Mearsheimer breaks the news to him that this is a US tradition, not a Trump one.

Then he launches in to the treaty that just expired with Trump must hate the Constitution screed at 3:20. Again Mearsheimer has to school him on law (it expired, not was withdrawn from). Then Nap changes the subject by re framing it to Trump's disdain for the Constitution. Again, tehy all ignore the constitution. Then he drags Ritter in to backstop his point. At 4:11, Mearsheimer schools him on the actual treaty and being useless as it still allows enough nukes to kill everyone anyway.

It just seems like Napalitano wastes time on pointless talking points and maybe feels like he can get Ron Paul elected if he does. In reality, he's campaigning for Gavin Newsom. Gavin will support every shitty foreign policy that that Trump does, plus rearm Ukraine.

Hearing how shitty Trump is does nothing to inform the viewer about what is going on in Ukraine or Iran.

Mearswheimer is much more useflul on Glenn Diesen.

My best guess on a final map remains as it was.

https://askeptic.substack.com/p/a-skeptics-best-guess-on-final-map-02f

Everything east of the Dnieper River in the north, Odessa, and everything within striking distance of Odessa will be Russia's. A large swath of that will be a no mans land until the west gives up on it.

Not sure Russia will have ever the honesty to tell its people that this war iwas planned and is made by ZioNazi Jews of Israel and their subsidiary USA. The relations between the Israeli ZioNazi and Putin's Government are not that clear when you read Russia statements.

Well... given the latest events... no thoughts anywhere?

Now, let's get back to Ukraine... let the US leave Ukraine and NATO... Let Russia have its own backyard, while we have our own.

Time for the US and Russia and China and God Knows Who, handle their own thing.

Let's hope Iran stops their Global Jihad soon and takes cares of it own people.

Let's concentrate on the UK Financial Aristocracy, shall we?

A Skeptic's avatar

This ceasefire is going to last maybe a day. Israel will not stop in Lebanon, and Iran's central control is blown up, so 45 some odd Iranian military districts have to stand down based on their own individual evaluation of the events.

As for Ukraine, totally agree.

The attack on the Islamic Regime of Iran was a long time coming... it should have been done in 1990 as they are a suicide cult who see nothing but upside in committing suicide...

Short term... the Islamic Regime offering free passage to any ship not associated with supporting the US and Israel in their attacks is actually a bad move on their part. It holds the potential to open up the Hormuz Straight thus removing the economic pressure that is at the heart of Iran's only leverage left.

On the Iranian "news". It truly reminds me of old Baghdad Bob... with their "Death To The Enemy... Glory Be To God"... etc, etc...

I find Trump's succinct and to the point ultimatum to be very telling. Trump is losing his patience with these people. The US so far has been reticent to attack the infrastructure in Iran... just as Putin was -for a long time- in the Ukraine. Both countries are attacking the Government not the people. The whole notion of TACO is oblivious to how successful negotiations are performed. You need to rachet the pressure up and down as required. And at some point you disengage to apply pressure on the other side. The US destroying some more crucial infrastructure to put more pain on the Islamic Regime is proper at this time. It gives credibility to the threats.

After all, the Islamic Regime only understands strength and the application of violence. That's why Obola's money pay off was a failure all along. The Magnificent One was fooled in his arrogance that He Knew Better.

(Note: Do no equate Israel's actions with the US.. different goals IMHO).

We'll see what happens here... some observations...

Ultimately, Trump could easily force price controls on domestic oil within the USA. An act which is legal -Nixon introduced price controls- and the Democrats would be extremely foolish to fight that in court. The US, and Venezuela, being exporters would benefit from high global oil prices... so would Russia. And the US could subsidize our allies.

It would actually be a more powerful economic weapon for the US than anything Iran can muster.

The Islamic Regime is nuts and everybody claiming that the US is arrogant and wrong is just not thinking this through. This is not about Israel, the zionists, etc... this is the destruction of a clear and present danger. Global Jihad as exported by the Iranian Islamic Regime can not be tolerated once they gain a working nuke and ICBMs.

tonyE's avatar

This is NOT about Iranians... this is about the Islamic Regime in Iran that has been on a Global Jihad for almost 50 years.

And they have been terrorizing their own citizens as well.

Get that through your head when you start ranting anti-American slogans and start making apologies for the dogmatic cruel government of the Islamic Regime.

I know many Iranians... persians, assyrians ( heck, just next to me too: neighbor to the right, Persian; to the Left, Assyrian and Armenian )even a couple of jews... they all hate the repression in Iran. They all wish for the day when they can come back to visit their family in Tehran.

So, get this straight when you celebrate a regime that is threatening to take down the entire World with them.

It isn't like North Korea which has missiles and nukes but is run by a government that has no interest in being obliterated from the face of the Earth, so they behave logically. The Islamic Regime has no such restraint as they see obliteration as a perfectly way of reaching their version of Heaven.

OK, so Israel is not perfect either... they have a lot of issues... But so far they have not shown an inclination of exporting Jewish Jihad... just the typical Jewish "eye for an eye" behavior.

It would be much better if the World would learn to "turn the other cheek".

Peace.

My issue is with America. We're 40 Trillion in debt due in large part to these military adventures. These adventures never benefit the people we claim to be freeing. They only benefit the sponsors who own our congress. What we're doing is solely to the benefit of Israel.

Look at who we have recently liberated. Is the average Libyan better off? Is the average Syrian better off? Is the average Afghani better off? 23 years after we liberated Iraq, the average Iraqi is still worse off than before we 'helped' them. A lot of dead Iraqis and little to show for it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualties_of_the_Iraq_War

I'm very familiar with Iran. My ex wife and family are Iranian American and have family in Iran. They fled from the Shah that we put in power. Our initial meddling in Iran is what led to the extremist Islamic revolution. I've seen first hand what American help brings. We blow stuff up and kill people. We're not going to liberate Iran, we're going to doom them to a fate way worse than the current Islamic Regime. Your neighbors will never be able to visit what we will leave behind.

If we (America) have our way, Iran will be just like Syria and Libya. Their people will go from be ruled by a functioning oppressive religious central government, to being ruled by marauding bands of murderous warlords. More than likely, those warlords will be like ISIS or the Taliban. Most public services will be collapsed. Any decent standard of living for the population will be destroyed. Any social progress from loosening religious restrictions will be reversed. Death, despair, chaos, and poverty is what America leaves behind.

My point is that we are not good and liberating people. Regardless of the pre war propaganda, liberation is never the real goal. The real goal never considers the average inhabitants of these places.

I really do appreciate you being here Tony. I like that we can share our feelings with each other. My hope is that somehow Trump shuts this down soon and doesn't leave average Iranians living in mud huts hoping to survive ISIS types.

tonyE's avatar

Note: My comment about "you" was mostly about some of the other posters who are rather knee jerking.. Go! Go! Ayatollah!

Most of the history you quoted was created by the Deep State and their war mongering... the UK globalist financial aristocrats controlling the US and the West...

I agree wholeheartely that the Forever Wars do nothing but benefit the UK and the Deep State ( remember Eisenhower's MIC warning! ). This goes quite a while... Russophobia sort of started 300 years ago... Communism, Zionism, etc... all started in the UK.

Trump feels different. I don't see him as nation building, in Iran, I see him as taking out a clear and present danger. Not like in past conflicts where there was no clear expectation as to what our goals were, except to enrich the Globalists.

Example, why did we attack Iraq? We should have attacked Iran instead!

Lybia? Don't get me started on that one.

Like you, my hope is that the Islamic Regime will cease to exist soon enough and the nation of Iran can join the World.

Then we can take our troops out of the EU and put them in Greenland and Venezuela. ;-)

Let Russia have Ukraine...

Israel? I'm definitely not a zionist... and there's a lot of issues in that place with that nation. I'd hope that if they Islamic Global Jihad stopped supported Hamas, Hezbollah, etc... they might be able to calm down. I make no excuses for them, but living with a clear and present danger of destruction can't be good for their moderates.

$40T... yeah... let's see where the money went, huh? I live in California, so we need VOTER ID like ten years ago...

IMHO, picking on Trump is a dead end that actually helps the EU.

It's the UK controlled EU that is the global enemy of peace. The Euro aristocracy is back at what they do best... absolute totalitarian control.

Sad to see that old NASA Canberra plane... however, I think the Global Hawk unmanned aircraft is a better platform for this kind of research... it flies higher, has very long endurance (HALE) and it can be modified easily to carry all kinds of instruments.

I know, I worked on it.
