I'm very skeptical about any peace acceptable to Russia being concluded within the next several months. I think Trump is exaggerating the possibilities of peace because he made so much noise about it during his campaign. Russia does not have to make peace. Russia should and I think will capture significantly more territory and see whether ukraine collapses internally.

I think the peace agreement, when it comes, will see Russia staying at the Dnieper.

Biden accidentally set Trump up for an easy 'win'. The entire premise of Biden's American involvement was that Russia wouldn't stop at Ukraine. Russia was going to pour across Europe. If Trump 'stops' Russia at the Dnieper, the claim will be that Europe was saved.

Russia might not claim more than the breakaway republics but I think she can and will. The US and ukraine have NO leverage and aren't likely to have any. Obviously, Russia won't send her army much beyond the Dnieper but I'm not sure it will take much more for ukraine to collapse internally. Finally, Russia does NOT trust anyone in ukraine, the EU, UK, OR the US, including Donald Trump. If they do trust anyone representing the US, NATO, the EU, or the UK, they are morons.

My thought is that most of the region between the Dnieper and what has been annexed will become a buffer zone, barely inhabited.

DeNazification is the only reason bridges still stand on the Dnieper. As long as Ukraine is able to send forces east for elimination, the bridges serve Russia. Once that use case is done, those bridges will drop. Once they are dropped, the buffer zone is easily defended.

There shouldn't be any regime left in ukraine that even considers rearmament or aggression. The place should be completely purged of neocon/neoliberal influences. I know that would be difficult but I think it's necessary or this huge tragedy will be repeated further to the west.
