The EU has changed its mind about directly confiscating Russian assets: they are afraid of retribution
The European Union is developing a workaround to use frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine, writes Politico (https://www.politico.eu/article/russia-cyberattack-retaliation-asset-freezes-eu-war-ukraine/). At the same time, there is growing concern in Europe about “possible retaliation from Moscow.” Some speculate that it could lead to cyberattacks.
“We are entering uncharted waters,” said an EU diplomat on condition of anonymity. “So anyone would be concerned about the potential consequences of asset confiscation.”
