As it became known later, the F-16 aircraft transferred to Ukraine was shot down by the Patriot anti-aircraft system transferred to Ukraine.

Our take on Kursk.
For the Ukrainians: Prior to Kursk, two choices remained. One, dig in and negotiate for better terms. Two, go on the offensive in Russia and try one last time to drag the west along. Maybe seize the nuclear power plant to gin up the fear.
Digging in and getting better terms was never going to be palatable to the far right that is in control in Ukraine, so offensive it was. Ukraine abandoned Donbass to make this offensive happen.
For the Russians: Prior to Kurst, they were running out of Russian annexed territory to kick Ukraine out of. The Donbass is nearly cleared. Once these Annexed territories are fully under Russian control, the legal standing that the Russian action ascribes to begins to vanish. If you have complete control of the stated area of dispute, how can you continue advancing? If Russia continued west, past its annexed territories. it begins to look like Poland really could be next. You then become subject to new pressures to negotiate.
Having Ukrainian forces in Kurst is a blessing for Russia. It gives them all sorts of new legitimacy to continue advancing across the entire front. It also opens new avenues for building Russian forces, and shoring up domestic support. Don’t expect Kurst to be free of Ukrainians soon.
What is the longer term?
The absolute minimum border for Russia will be the Dnieper river. Currently, the bridges over the Dnieper are mostly open. Ukraine depends on them to supply the front in the east. It can be considered certain that when Russia reaches those bridges, Ukraine will drop them. Meanwhile, Russia allows them to stay up. Why? Firstly, to demilitarize, Russia needs Ukraine to send its troops to the east. Fighting in the west is far more difficult logistically. Secondly, once demilitarization is done, they need a buffer. As Russia plows westward, the population from these towns are displaced (nothing remains to support them). They either go east or west. If you remove that route west, you end up taking care of a population that hates you (insurgents).
The area between the Dnieper and the current annexed territories will more than likely be empty and leveled. It will become the buffer zone, devoid of sanctuary, services, and people. It will be mined, heavily surveilled, and remain empty.
Our guess on the maximum border for Russia remains as was in this article.
A Skeptic's Best Guess On Final Map
Our previous Best Guess was based on a political solution. It’s clear now that lives lost is not a factor. A political solution is now all but ruled out. The west wants to bleed Russia, without any particular strategy. The west will fight to the last Ukrainian Soldier and Polish Mercenary.

▫️Over the past 24 hours, units of the Sever Group of Forces supported by Army Aviation and artillery repelled five attacks launched by the enemy's assault detachments in the direction of Kremyanoye, Pushkarskoye, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye.
▫️The enemy's attempts to launch attacks in the direction of Malaya Loknya, Pushkarnoye, and Russkaya Konopelka were thwarted. The AFU losses have amounted to up to 40 troops killed and wounded, three armoured fighting vehicles, and two motor vehicles.

▫️Over the past week, units of the Sever Group of Forces have carried on an operation to neutralise AFU units in Kursk region. Operational-Tactical and Army aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, and artillery inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of four mechanised brigades, one tank brigade, two air assault brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), three territorial defence brigades, as well as thwarted attempts to deploy enemy reserves from the territory of Ukraine.
▫️In Volchansk and Liptsy direction, losses were inflicted on formations of one marine brigade, two territorial defence brigades, and two national guard brigades of the enemy. Over the past week, the AFU losses amounted to up to 3,580 troops, six tanks, 181 armoured fighting vehicles, and 103 motor vehicles in the area of the Sever Group of Forces responsibility.
Four MLRS launchers, including one U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS, 35 field artillery guns, 12 electronic warfare and counter-battery stations were destroyed.

In the course of counter-battery warfare, one Croatian-made RAK-SA-12 MLRS launcher and 38 field artillery guns, including 18 Western-made self-propelled artillery systems and 155-mm howitzers were neutralised. Sixteen electronic warfare and counter-battery stations as well as 18 ammunition depots were destroyed.

Losses were inflicted on formations of seven mechanised brigades, two jaeger brigades, one airborne brigade, one assault brigade of the AFU, two territorial defence brigades, and the Lyut Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian National Police. Fifty counter-attacks launched by AFU units were repelled.
Over the week in this direction, the AFU losses amounted to up to 3,720 troops, seven tanks, 14 armoured fighting vehicles, including one German-made Marder infantry fighting vehicle and two U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carriers, 38 motor vehicles, one Grad MLRS combat vehicle, and 42 field artillery guns.
▫️Units of the Vostok Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions as well as inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of two mechanised brigades, one motorised infantry brigade of the AFU, and four territorial defence brigades. Eighteen counter-attacks launched by AFU assault detachments were repelled.
The AFU losses amounted to up to 860 troops, seven armoured fighting vehicles, 43 motor vehicles, 11 field artillery guns, including seven Western-made 155-mm self-propelled artillery systems and howitzers, and four electronic warfare stations.
▫️Units of the Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted losses on formations of one infantry brigade, one mountain assault brigade of the AFU, two marine brigades, and one territorial defence brigade.
The AFU losses amounted to up to 460 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, 32 motor vehicles, 16 field artillery guns, and six U.S.-made 155-mm howitzers. Moreover, seven electronic warfare stations and three ammunition depots of the enemy were destroyed.
▫️Over the past week, air defence units shot down one MiG-29 aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force, three U.S.-made ATACMS operational-tactical missiles, four Tochka-U tactical missiles, 19 French-made Hammer guided aerial bombs, 31 U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles, 311 unmanned aerial vehicles, with 127 of them outside the special military operation zone.
▫️Units of the Black Sea Fleet wiped out six Ukrainian uncrewed surface vehicles.
▫️Over the past week, 58 Ukrainian servicemen have surrendered on the line of contact.
📊In total, 641 airplanes and 283 helicopters, 30,701 unmanned aerial vehicles, 575 air defence missile systems, 17,783 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,431 combat vehicles equipped with MLRS, 13,809 field artillery guns and mortars as well as 25,447 units of special military equipment have been destroyed during the special military operation.

🏳️AFU POW: after two days I realised that we were on Russian territory
AFU POW Andrei Dolgiy said, that he didn't know where his command send him to.
'The military clerk told me I would be sent on a duty trip for three days. I thought I would guard something and that's it. After two days, I found out that I was in Kursk region,' said the POW.
After his unit was obliterated, he tried to hide from drones, and then voluntarily surrendered to Russian servicemen.
'We were told during drills that the Russians would treat us very badly. Russians treat prisoners very well,' said former AFU serviceman.

During the night and throughout the day, Russian forces delivered several strikes on the territory controlled by the enemy. Explosions and air defense activity were recorded in Kryvyi Rih and several settlements in the Kyiv Region, as well as in Sumy.

Simultaneously with the Zaporizhia Region, one should not lose sight of the situation in the Kherson direction, where over the past few weeks Ukrainian formations have repeatedly probed the ground for a subsequent landing on the Tendra and Kinburn spits.
For these purposes, the AFU have accumulated a significant number of unmanned boats, drones and various watercraft in the area, which are planned to be used at a time when the Russian troops will expect it the least - as, for example, was the case in the Kursk Region.

In recent days, the front line in the South Donetsk direction has not stood still - the Russian troops are advancing on several sectors.
▪️West of Peremoha, assault groups of the Russian Armed Forces attacked the AFU positions in the former reservoir and drove out the enemy, but were unable to consolidate. This strongpoint has changed hands at least twice, and fighting in its vicinity continues at the moment.
▪️The situation in Kostyantynivka, the liberation of which was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense today, has also become clearer. According to footage from objective control and information from local sources, it is premature to speak of the complete capture of the settlement - fighting is still ongoing there.
Part of the village north of Dzherelna Street is most likely a "gray zone". Also, footage was published online of a strike by a Russian UAV on AFU transport near the intersection of Berehovaya Street and O0532 (T-05-24) highway: according to our data, the AFU still retain the ability to cross the Sukhyi Yaly river via the bridge from the north.
